HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989-02-23-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES - 2/23/89 PRESENT Bill Fitzgerald, Chairman, Ray Flynn, 2nd Vice Chairman, Pat Flynn, 1st Vice Chairman, Dawn McKenna, Bob Jackson, John Hayden, Jean Coates GUESTS Charles Grossimon, James Roberts, David Taylor-Lexington Minute Men Chairman Bill called meeting to order at 8 p m , and introduced representa- tives of Lexington Minute Men (as noted above) PATRIOTS' DAY - Update The Lexington Minute Men will provide a color guard for the USS LEXINGTON Memorial Service, scheduled for 11 30 a m They announced that rehearsal for the Reenactment will be held Sunday, 4/2, 2-4 p m Rain date is 4/9/89 After the rehearsal, TCC/LMM representatives will meet to review areas requiring roping, i e , wheelchairs/photographers/etc Passes for the Reenactment will be distributed as in past years Pickets are requested for stairs of the Reviewing Stand to prevent overcrowding Jim Roberts will return in 2-3 weeks to go over parade roster, etc. with the Committee Four wreaths will be ordered for the LMM ceremonies They will be delivered early a m the 17th to Kennedy School Bill announced that there will be one bus at Kennedy to transport LMM to the a m parade, and one at the Statue after Paul Revere leaves, for the p m. parade (He added that the TCC has paid for these buses since 1976.) CONTACT PERSON for Radio Club, this year, is Walter Ellis A representative will be at the meeting on 3/2/89 Minutes of the Meeting of 2/16/89 were accepted as amended. Korean War Veterans, Boston, plan to send a 10-man color guard and 25-35 marchers. Bill asked Jean to send an invitation to the Korean Consul General. The guest list from HAFB has been received The new Base Commander is included Chief Furdon, LPD, has assigned Sgt Mark Corr - Division Four Marshal LFD will hopefully volunteer aides. Aides to the Chief of Staff - tabled to another meeting Needs to be finalized, however, the first week of March! Among suggestions Angus McIver, VFW Commander, Frank Rymes, Scout Leader Consideration requested of nurse-veterans, outstanding teachers, retired veterans/HAFB. TCC MEETING MINUTES 2/23/89 2 Town Manager has not yet made a commitment about insurance coverage for riding horses. Dawn will check with her insurance agent about appropriate $-amount of liability insurance coverage for horses Pending receipt of further information, this subject is tabled REVIEW/ACCEPTANCE OF BANDS/MARCHING UNITS The Committee VOTED to accept the following KEVIN BARRY SUBURBANETTES ST PATRICK'S -Stoneham SPRINGFIELD KILTIE ST JOHN Girls LIBERTY JAZZ BAND ST THERESA's WANAPANAQUINS CANTON AMERICAN LEGION BOONTON, NJ BAND READING YOUTH (The Boonton, NJ group plans to arrive in Lexington on 4/16, and stay to Wednesday, 4/19 ) REPORTS Bob - has contacted 94th R-Com John - contacted B S Council Headquarters for names of Lexington troop leaders Has made initial contact He outlined a few suggestions for bus control at Pleasant Street Bill reminded him that proposed traffic procedures require approval and signature by Chief Furdon before implementation Pat needs notification. Dawn - Acceptances have been received from Sen Kraus and Rep. Doran They will be accompanied by their wives She expects a call from the Korean minister tonight Pat - confirmation has been received from 18th Army Band, MNG marching unit, ? band MNG has promised approximately 100 persons plus ? vehicles Also, 46th Med Battalion, HAFB Color Guard for Chief Marshal, MDC Color Guard Middlesex Sheriffs and ASA Flag Detail from Ft Devens have been invited.
