HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989-03-02-TCC-min.pdf TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES 3/2/89 Called to order at 7 58 p m Miami Elementary Schools will not be here this year, but will be here in 1990 The reenactment on the 16th is okayed pending receipt of a letter, and approval of the Town Manager for use of Hastings and Tower Park The Senior Class President will be Chief Marshal for the A M Parade - Aides Merritt Friedman, Jennifer Haskell Wendy Koenig will recite the Pledge of Allegiance Assembly Area and Reception for Honored Guests - The Elks have changed the downstairs area It is now an enclosed room with 8 tables. They would like to hold the reception (2 drinks/person, hot trays, a meal afterwards, if desired) - Bill will meet with the Library trustees to request permission to use the foyer of the library for an assembly area - Determination of the assembly area will be delayed until next week The Shriners will be limited to 8 horses. Route for the 16th - Up to Concord Hill Market (1 00) - Into Hastings Park (arr 1 15, stay about 30 min ) - Then down Mass Ave to Tower Park Grand Masters Lodge of the Masonic Order - They want to participate along with the Shriners - They number about 50 - They may meet at the Elks ' or the Masonic Hall If they go to the Elks ' , it will be very crowded The Elks' float will head up Division 2, displaying a banner, followed by the Grand Masters Lodge, also displaying a banner The Shriners will follow the Grand Masters Lodge' s band Reports Ray Bands - Middlesex Sheriffs - Woburn H S -- asking $1200' - Follen Church - Sacred Heart - Ancient & Honorable -- yes - Reading -- taking a poll , will let us know - Wakefield -- not this year, but next year Charlie Banner Bearers - In paper for next week - Will be mentioned at the Principals' meeting at LHS on Tuesday at 2.00 - In the Lexingtonian - In PTA Newsletter John• Scouts for buses - 3 Troop masters have agreed to help out They will give us 1 - 5 boys each Pat Organizations attending - National Guard Band will be here with 100 troops - 47th British Infantry Unit may come - B U Concert Band will play in Depot Square if weather permits - DeWolfe Realtors will hand out balloons - Looking for more units from the MDC Adrienne Float Applications and PUB - Were handed out to committee members - Princeton Band has not made a decision yet Paul Logistics - All banners survived - Long bus route is confirmed Bill Mclninch, Jr , Colonial Wireless Amateur Radio - 8 or 9 sets available - Adams - Marrett - Muzzey JHS - Waltham St - Reviewing Stand - Hayden - LHS - Chief Marshal 's Desk - Elks - A man from Concord Civil Defense will run the control station - He mentioned that there was confusion as to why they were there last year. The three aides to the Chief Marshal have all accepted Chief of Staff Aides - Cecil Jones pending (he is out of town) - Dan Murphy is unsure if he will be able to be there, but is very enthusiastic - Dick Crogan cannot because of a CYO committment - John Watson accepted John Watson recommended Sterling Hight and Dave Taylor to be aides Sgt Mark Corr will be asked to be the 4th Division Marshal Possible aides are Frank Ryms, Frank Samuels (John will call ) and Brian Majerski (Pat will call ) We still need to place Angus MacIver Bill will call him The Fire Dept will give us a Color Guard, but no aides The PTS/LHS and the Senior Class would like to have a float themed on drug awareness, and have students hand out small pamphlets about drug abuse on the side of the parade The Committee will vote to approve or disapprove this after we have read the text of the handout The Booton H S Band was okayed to play "God Bless America" at the opening ceremonies The LHS Band will still play "The Star Spangled Banner " The Meeting was adjourned at 9 17 p m Respectfully Submi ed, 16410.-1.4.44.4g• Adrienne A Della Penna Recording Secretary Pro Tem
