April 14, 1977
PRESENT. Chmn. Barnes, Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. Mitchell, Mr Gaughan, Mr. Fitzgerald,
Mr Brenchick, Mr. Turner, Mr. Flynn, Mrs. Hazel
Mr Richard Perry, Chief Marshal Bean, Paul Jenkins, Andy Liu, Mary Boyle, Mrs. Zidelis
CORRESPONDENCE Mrs. Litchfield read all invitation acceptances to date; Mr. Barnes
noted that the TCC had finally had a confirmation of participation by the US Army Band
of New England This group, as well as a marching unit, will be in the afternoon
parade. Since they are also coming to Concord, Lexington will not have to bear the
full expense of transportation, however, we will be responsible for at least one bus
round trip and for a meal for the band following the parade.
PARADE ARRANGEMENTS It was agreed that, since the owner is quite willing to handle
the group on this short notice, the TCC would host the Army Band members at Rosina's
Kitchen after the parade It was also agreed that there should be a single menu with
choice of drink and dessert - the cost should be less than $3.00 per person for the
meal
Mr. Brenchick noted that there was some problem in obtaining banner-carriers.
Although he feels that there are 12 individuals from the High School who will help, he
asked Scout Paul Jenkins to alert the other Scouts enlisted to serve as parade aides
that their help may be needed in this respect. There are 8 sponsors of marching units
and thus, 16 carriers are needed.
Sponsors are Mal's (St. Williams), Depositors Trust (Stoneham High School)
Michelson's Shoes (Waltham American Legion Band), St Brigids Womens Club (the Annunciators),
Rowe Chevrolet & Lexington Toyota (Tewksbury-Wilmington Crusaders) , Arlex Oil (Ipswich
High School Band, Sherator-Lexington Inn (Fitchburg High School) and Old Colony Trust
(St. Agnes) .
There was a short discussion regarding the possible late appearance of the
Arlington Heightsmen, who are participating in a special ceremony in Arlington. Chief
Marshal Bean and the Committee noted that this group is in the last division, the
Lexington police will be notified that this group should be allowed to join the
Division Assembly area at a late time, however, under no conditions will they be
allowed to join the parade once Division 4 has stepped off.
Mr. Flynn noted that the MIT Pershing Rifles , who had been sent a rejection
by the TCC, would now be happy to come at no cost, furthermore, they reiterated their
promise not to affix bayonnets and not to throw their rifles while marching. The
unit was therefore accepted for participation
Mr. Flynn, Mrs. Mitchell, and Mr. Fitzgerald will tend to ceremonial hosting
responsibilities with the Alexander Central High School Band. Mr. Flynn has ordered
a copy of the Lexington Minute Man for each member of the group as a memento of their
visit; this cost will be paid by the TCC. The TCC has made arrangements with Bellino's
Doughnut Shop to pack a box lunch for the group - we are acting as their agent only and
the bill will be assumed by the Alexander Band.
Following a final review of all responsibilities, TCC members agreed that plans
for the weekend seemed well in hand.
Respectfully submitted,
Ruth Mitchell, Recording Secretary
