March 31, 1977
PRESENT Vice-Chairman Gaughan (presiding) , Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs. Mitchell, Mrs
Hazel, Mr. Flynn, Mr Turner, Mr. Fitzgerald, Mr Brenchick
Chief Marshal Bean, Paul Jenkins
CORRESPONDENCE: Mrs Litchfield read portions of guest invitation acceptances and
regrets to the TCC. There has been no word from the military units other than from
the National Guard. Mr. Flynn and Mrs. Litchfield will try to contact Hanscom AFB
again regarding the general officers and other potential invitees.
MINUTES: of the meeting of March 24 (not March 25) were approved as distributed
PARADE PLANNING: The projected budget was again reviewed and it was agreed that, since
Mr. Fitzgerald has been most successful in contacting potential sponsors, although
those units which would definitely be accepted would be so notified, Mr. Flynn and
Mrs. Mitchell would delay the sending of notices of rejection for the moment Mr.
Guaghan commented on the articles in the Minuteman which appeared today and which
fairly summarized the predicament of the TCC as well as asked the townspeople for
help. Mr Gaughan also summarized his understanding of the requests which the
TCC had made of the Selectmen regarding the possibility of additional financial
support in such areas as use of the LeRoy Brown fund, the submission to the Selectmen
or the Police Department of the annual bill for the police lunch, etc. TCC members
agreed that there seemed to be a definite possibility that funds to invite some
other units beyond those agreed to previously would be available. Decisions will
be made once sponsorship agreements are more definite.
Mr Fitzgerald and Mr Brenchick led the TCC in a further discussion of sponsor's
banners, Mr. Brenchick had investigated size, price and style which would be avail-
able from the sign company usually engaged to paint the other signs used on Patriot's
Day, Mr. Gaughan noted that students in the commercial arts departments of both
Minuteman School and Shawsheen were very busy in preparing work for major showing
of Vocational-Technical School work and would not be able to do the work for the
TCC in the time available. The Committee then voted to authorize Mr. Brenchick
to make arrangements for sponsor's banners with the understanding that the total
cost of each banner (cloth, painting, poles for carrying, etc.)would probably be
in the neighborhood of $25 to $30 per banner. The TCC will assume this expense.
Size of lettering, color, etc. were also discussed and guidelines given to both
Mr Brenchick and, for use in speaking with other potential sponsors, to Mr.
Fitzgerald. It was also agreed that suitable newspaper publicity which recognized
the contributions made by sponsors was absolutely necessary and Mrs Hazel will
make arrangements
OTHER PLANNING: The entire check list was reviewed, as usual, and individuals
reported on progress in each area of responsibility Mr. Fitzgerald told of
planning progress for the dedication of the flagpole - the subcommittee will meet
on April 5 to finalize plans and will report to the TCC on April 7
WORKING ROSTERS. The balance of the meeting was spent in preparing a working
roster for the afternoon parade; float positions were drawn from a list prepared
by Mr Brenchick. Mrs Mitchell will be responsible for typing and duplicating the
morning roster and orders; Mr. Gaughan will arrange for students at Shawsheen
to prepare the afternoon roster and orders
Respectfully submitted,
Ruth Mitchell, Recording Secretary
