January 27, 1977
PRESENT Vice-chairman Gaughan (presiding) , Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Mitchell, Mr Flynn,
Mr Turner
Chief Marshal David Bean, Mr Grossimon and Mr Schulman (representing the
Minute Men) , Paul Jenkins
Mr Gaughan introduced and welcomed the 1977 Parade Chief Marshall, David Bean
CORRESPONDENCE Responses from various marching units are beginning to be received
Mrs. Litchfield, Mrs Mitchell and Mr Flynn have sent out many questionnaires and
will send additional ones during the next several weeks The local youth groups
will be contacted by telephone regarding the morning parade, as has been the custom
in past years
MINUTES of the meeting of January 20, 1977, were approved as distributed
MINUTEMEN Messrs Grossimon and Schulman told the TCC that the Minutemen did hope
to be able to stage the Battle Reenactment, as well as take a major part in all the
Patriots Day celebrations, as has been their custom in the past years However, the
organization is under severe financial strain - they asked the TCC if the Committee
could give them an official figure as to the amount of expense contribution which
might be expected in April Chmn Gaughan said that the tentative budget was for
the usual sum of $450, in light of the fact that there will be no Bicentennial Funds
available for use, this figure is not likely to be revised upwards
There was a brief discussion regarding the manner in which invitations to
march in the afternoon parade should be sent to the groups of minutemen in the area
The Lexington group has handled this during the. Bicentennial period, however, it was
felt by all that there would probably not be as many units available this year In
addition, it was noted that the TCC felt that responsibility for all the "paperwork"
could now be handled by the committee itself, since the Bicentennial "rush" is over
The TCC and the Lexington Minutemen will cooperate in issuing invitations to
colonial marching groups, however, the TCC itself will do the actual mailing, after
consultation with the Minutemen regarding quality and availability of groups In this
way, there can be no question as to the final responsibility for parade order compliance,
etc
There will be further discussion of actual details of Minutemen participation
in all activities at a later date Mr Grossimon said that a designated liason man
would work with the TCC
OTHER BUSINESS Mr Gaughan announced that Chairman Barnes had heard that the
TCC budget request for $7500 for fiscal 1977-78 was being reduced to $6500 during
the overall Town budget preparation
