This proposal presents the need 4DV' and the ,sionitIcant benefits to be
derived q'cim dh intra-tcwn bus service Tor lexington. rwo prime goals
hie been estab/ished:
, To increase the mobilits of transoortatioo dependent citizens,
especially the young and elderly.
• To provide an alternative form of transportation or residents who
currently drive their aetoliobiles within the Town,
Consistent with these goals is the following set of spe6fic purposes and
benefits to be derived ttom a reiasonabi>epriced, convenient, local transit
system:
• Enable more students to participate in afeereschool activities and
parteime Jobs,
• Enable Lexington's many elderly citzens oo travel within the Town without
feeling dependent on amil or friends.
• Rrovile the hanAlcapped with means ot moblity,
Provide feeder service to tle META lines,
• Reduce the traffic congestion and demand or oarklng spaces n the Town
Centel .
• Make many facilities and resources t) the Town more accessible.
• Fc tate tourism by increasine access to Lexingtons tourist attractions.
• Relieve parents of many of the burdens of chauffeuring their children
• Enablo the youth to develoo indeoendeece and responsibility or their own
actin ties..

• It wi 1 Pe a fieederoute, poised system, uith stops on demand, This is a
proven system, found to be successful in other couruntties simliar to
Lexington.

• There will be 8 routes of 42 hour duration, with each beire semoced
once per hour. TMs simple, consistent schedule Kill hcOp ttract a
large fldership.
• The service win be operated 8 hoties per day, sx days per eeek. This w0I
cover the anticipateA peak times.
• The vehicie chosen is the Chevrolet Wayne Transette mini-bee with 6 seats
and eoom for standees. Use of this dlstinctive, comfortable, and casy-to-
eater vehicle will serve to promote the service and to buikl a lm'cie
ridership.
• Servce will be coneracted out to an experienced operatoo. This will help
to insure consistent, Quality service from the snit.
• Theare vill be 2 with a reduced rate for the young and eiderly This
relatvely low fare structure is desgned to eneouraree rAership,
. A special program w 11 be estebliOied to serve the needs of the trensporta-
tion hanthcapped. 44s will utilize a Chair Car made availeble by the
MBTA. Minuteaan Kome Care Cmporation has agreed to manege the us of the
Chair Car and to coorchnate ite use with other area tome.

to guarantee coordleation of all aspects of the s:ystem. The Transortation
