HomeMy WebLinkAbout1979-12-13-TCC-min.pdf 0 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE 12/13/79 Present - Chairman Bill Fitzgerald Vice-Chairman Ray Flynn, Karen Gaughan Paul Jenkins, Jean Coates, Dawn Brenchick Correspondence -Chairman Fitzgerald received a letter from the Board of Selectmen thanking the Town Celebrations Committee for working with General Chapman regarding the retreat on 20 April. 1980 They have accepted our recommendation and stated that General Chapman will be working with us in the future Another letter was received from the Town Manager asking the Committee to set guidelines for Patriot's Day permits to venders Four questions were asked. 1) What types of group/organizations granted permits? 2) What restrictions placed on permits? 3) Any restrictions as to particular areas designated? 4) Is it required for groups to man their own booths and not to contract out? These were originally discussed at the 13 September and the 27 September meetings. A letter dated 16 October 1979 was mailed to the Town Manager by Karen Gaughan, and it will be resubmitted to him regarding the guide-lines for permits The Board of Selectmen sent information regarding the City of Boston s 350th Birthday parade to be celebrated on 21 September 1980 The Lord Boston abd Lord Mayor of the city of Boston, England will be invited Among the invited guests will be President and Mrs Carter Vice—President and Mrs. Mondale, as well as many foreign dignitaries. The Town Celebrations Committee was asked to recommend what to send as a representation of the Town of Lexington The recommendation, by unanimous vote, was to ask the Lexing- ton Minutemen to be the official representatives of Lexington Contact has been made with Herb Grossimon and he will contact the Committee following a Minutemen Board of Directors meeting in January A possibility of sending a float was mentioned as well Karen Gaughan received a letter from Senator Rotondi apologizing for not con- tacting us regarding his absence from the Veterans Day parade and ceremonies His absence was due to an illness in the family and he is looking forward to future contact with the Committee Dawn Brenchick will send a copy of her letter to Donald Gillespie thanking him for participating in the Veterans Day parade to the Lexington Minute-Man in regards to the letter in tha 13 December issue Patriot's Day - Ray Flynn will contact the MDC Police in regards to the possibility of having four mounted police to lead off the parade The next meeting will be on Thursday 3 January 1980 HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR " " Respectfully submitted Dawn Brenchick Acting Recording Secretary
