Announcements. Jacquie Smith advised the commission members that they were now covered by the open meeting law. She told members that they should call their town clerk to advise him/her that they are a member of the commission She also recommended that members call to get a copy of the open meeting law. Election of new Chairman. Jim Walpole and John Haggerty were nominated for the office of Chairman Fred Hafer asked if both were willing to accept the chairmanship, John Haggerty said that he would like to stay involved with the noise subcommittee and, therefore, would decline the offer of Chairman. Jim Walpole was ,thereby , elected Chairman of the Hanscom Field Advisory Commission. v .1 , Road Issues-Hanscom Area Jacquie Smith announced that Rich Beatty of rTPS, was sick, but would like to be put on the next meeting's agenda He will discuss the history of the roar' issues and ask for commission members input. Heather Conover (Massport) advised that Massport would play a participatory role in this project and had agreed to give staff support. Massport would not, however, he taking the lead role. John Caswell of Lincoln told thoseP resent that he had asked MAPC if they would. help the tens in developing solutions to their traffic and road problems MAPC agreed to give a technical assistance grant to the four towns Flight Facility Station: Joel Bornstein (Massport) told the commission members that the proposed FAA Flight Facility Station would handle the northeast region On a one to one and one half acre plot of land a single story building with 12,000 square feet of floor space would be built Seventyfive parking spaces have been requested p to service the Flight Facility Station The proposed station would provide fliiht information for pilots and provide weather reports as part of a national network of other such stations 99% of the activities conducted are handled via telephone or radio Joel advised the commission that no increase in flight or ground access activity, other than employees,should result from the location of the Station at Hanscom There would be 25 employees at peak shift Joel showed the two locations which are presently being considered 1 ) adjacent to the civil air terminal facility and 2. ) closer to entrance near Pneumo facility When the detailed and final site plans are developed, Joel said that he would return and make another presentation and answer any questions It was asked why 75 spaces were needed for 25 employees. Joel said he did not know, but the station would also be used for pilot briefings, visitors, etc. It was also asked what required the location of the facility at the airport Joel said that an airport location was not essential , but that Massport saw the location of the Flight Facility Station at Hanscom as an opportunity to increase the revenue base with an aviation-related use which was compatible with the C goals for Hanscom Field. Vince Scarano (FAA) added that it was most convenient and economical to have the station located at an airport. .b^ ry: { 1
