C'rowth: The number of seniors it town is up from 4, 691 to 5201 - from the Cersus Book 1980. Office: Jo ar will be or vacation August 13 to August 21. Connie Stohr will be it charge during that time. Connie Stohn's hours have been cut to 20 hours per week due to tightertirg of MMHC's budget. This creat- ed another hardship for our office as she has beer busy visiting shut-is all summer and has worked at least 24 hours per week. The formal opening of the new rooms will be post- poned until October Oper House, due to the fact the Friends are using ore of the rooms for their sale activities. Treasurer: Wendell Berway has taker over the reins of Treas- urer with extremely little fuss ad a great deal of expertise. Our budget records are easy to read ad will make our accounting easier. PROGRAMS Roy and Joar have completed the descriptio r of all of our programs with a summary. You will be receiving this soor . 1. Meals or Wheels : This annual report is most impressive. Corgratulatiors to Ruth Sawyer for her smooth tray' sitior from the hq,rds of Sylvia Yerfeld. ilee Vouclers hPve beer E;iver to, all YO'qDrIvers Th volus,ters will turn 1-, their IrOU0hP1-S mo,-tnly to Ruth who will process them through the CoA Treas- urer. _ Ruth will be away during the week of August 11 but; has found a capable volunteer to take over. rJ�'' 2 2.Senior's Tax Program: The idea for this program was given to the CoA by the Department of .Fader Affairs representative, Joyce McAteer. The report has now been completed by Eileen O'Leary and her able volunteer committee. They put i ' well over 500 hours of their time. Report of their findings will be available at the September Board Meeti•ig. This was a "herculean task" well done. A letter of thanks was written to the Tax Assessor's Office for their kindness to Eileen 's committee. 3 .Tt ewsletter ��- There was no newsletter in August but the Editorial Board is working on the September letter. We will mall all Town Meeting Members our monthly letter, starting in. September. We have written to them as well as all seniors born in 1920 explaining that they are about to receive our newsletter and why. L;,Friendly Visitor Proarat Dorothy Barrington is holding the group together until we' find a new leader. So far our search for the right person has been in vain. Rivka raffle from MVMH has been replaced by Andrea Carson. There will be a meeting of the group in late September. 5,:?'Pros and Recreation: - - In conjunction with the Recreation Department of the Town of Lexington two dessert parties and movies, one wine and cheese party with bingo and one spagetti dinner were held in the Great Hall of the Church of Our Redeemer and one picnic at the Res. These all averaged about 40 people. Two trips to i'orth Shore Music Theatre (42) a,-d Alone and Together (Widow to Wodow) (48) gave a most success- ful luncheon which points up Roy's theory that lurcheions are always welcome. Price 81.50. Recreation Committee met to plan outings up until Christ- mas. Recreation Committee plans to meet with Senior Citizen Club Trip Committee to coordinate all our trips through 1980. Barbara Luckman feels that the job of bookkeeping is getting too time consuming ard we have fond Evelyn Helly, an accountant t to take of the f.c ma; !p„ n 3 6. Friends of the CoA have been collecting, sorting and pricing articles for the Elephant Sale, September 13. Mary McDonald has an excellent committee of volunteers working many hours, Please save all saleable items but no clothes. Bring to the CoA Center. 7, Arts and Crafts: by the Recreation Department of Lexington. Average 14 people weekly. This summer program has been most enjoyed by an average of 1k.women and 1 gentleman. The program runs from July 9 to August 20. We hope to have another program starting in the fall. 8, =Bri.dee Lessons have continued all, summer, Usually two tables of students have part- icipated. Survr'r ffl�Senior Center: •.Joan will continue to work with Bea Phear on this survey during the fall. 3. FT82Bdg : The Treasurer and Coordinator have met together to start working on the ne* budget. We win meet with the executive board of the CoA and present a first draft at the. October Board Meeting for your consideration. 4. Adult Education Classes: will be offeredat the CoA Center commencing this fall -sponsored by the High School, Yoga, knitting, crochetting and the art of working with pine cones will meet weekly. This is a good opportunity to introduce our Center and its activities to people who may not have been here before. 5, arrangement of Rooms for CoA: The staff is working on the best possible use of all 4 rooms, Come and add your ideas. s
