Mr Kent briefly outlined the Board's position He pointed out that the Board will probably be following past process and appoint a Munroe School Conversion Committee The Board is very receptive to the recommendations by this committee However, the Board in its responsibility must consider alternative use and must involve the neighborhood. He pointed out that during this process with the Parker and Hancock Schools the Board had demonstrated it would move quickly Another issue raised by the Committee's report is the second use This presents both a challenge and option and must be addressed Mr Kent pointed out at this time that the Board can not recommend favorably on the request for funds first because there has been no formal commitment to the Senior Center and the amount needed is really unknown Joe Rooney expressed concern that housing was included as a second use He felt this should be deleted from the report He also asked Mr Kent if the Selectmen will table Article 37 Mr Kent responded that the Selectmen will not move to table, but he did not know what other Board's will do On the issue of uses, Mr Kent noted that the Board must consider other uses Mrs Wood asked about Town Meeting action last year that theSelectmen find a Sinior Center Mr Kent responded that the Selectmen will be requesting Town Meeting to transfer Munroe School and that the Selectmen consider as one use a senior center He also indicated that money may be available from Professional Services or Article 37 Mr Kent asked the committee what their direction would be if the Munroe School is not transferred Mr Rooney responded that the Committee looked at many sites but this was the only appropriate site They would consider the Barnes house The Committee feels this is an ideal site, but it is unclear as to when this will be available since the school committee has no definite plans to relocate out of the building It was agreed that because of this possibility Article 31 should be taken up after Article 37 Nancy H Banks
