Joan Halvorson, secretary
Mr Rooney noted that moving the Council on Aging has been the Committee's
main concern so far It is hoped that the Council will be moved from its Chamber
of Commerce location to 'the Church of Our Redeemer b5. August 1 Although the
Council is an official Town board, it does not have Town funds for moving and
rental Until monies are available, the Town Manager cannot in good conscience
sign a letter of agreement with the Church The Town Manager's Office is ex-
ploring the possibility of using funds from public trusts for the moving and
to cover several months rent The Location at Redeemer is a temporary one for
a year, although this may be extended later The rental is $300/month
The Committee reviewed a tentaive work plan aimed at having a proposal for a
Senior Center in Lexington ready for the 1979 Town Meeting. This would mean
having a report for the Selectmen ready by November There is some feeling
on the Committee that it has not yet demonstrated that a •need for the Senior
Center exists, and that next Town Meeting may be too soon to expect a proposal
to be ready A needs assessment is an important component of this process.
Marth Wood, Marilyn Waeler, Nancy Banks, and Joan Halvorson will work on a
needs assessment. A questionnaire will be developed to gather and analyze
data from other communities on programs, costs, and sources of funding
Previous questionnaires distributed by the League of Women Voters and the
Council on Aging should be looked at
A schedule of visits to existing centers was approved, with Committee members
electing different trips These groups will evaluate existing facilities in
other communities and also gather some program/ information while on these tours
It was suggested that representatives of the( Committee meet with the Recrea-
tion Site Committee to discuss whether some joint planning can be done
The possibility of using Hayden as a Senior Center was discussed - its Board
of Trustees is apparently open to this question This should be explored, since
Hayden is so frequently mentioned as a possible site
The next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 8, at 4.00 p.m
