Meeting Called to Order:
The meeting began at 6:30 P.M.
Minutes Approval:
Dr. Tung motioned to accept the minutes from the March 19, 2024, meeting as amended.

Semi-Public Pool Variance Requests: 105 CMR 435.23 (1) Lifeguards

Dr. Geller made a motion that the Lexington Board of Health grant the variance request from the
requirement of lifeguards for the safe operation of pools as listed under Article XVI, Bathing
Places § 155-116. In addition, all requirements of 105 CMR 435.23 (2) shall be met including all
signage which includes: “Warning No Lifeguard on Duty” in easy-to-read, legible letters which

are at least four inches high Children under age 16 should not use the swimming pool without an
adult in attendance and another sign that states, Adults should not swim alone. This variance
applies only to the following seasonal pool facilities, which have made the request in writing.
They are listed as follows: Adams, Moon Hill, Aloft, Element, Brookhaven, Waterstone, Five
Fields, Peacock Farm, Drummer Boy
This Variance will expire at the end of the Seasonal Pool season, pool expiration date, or upon
notification of an unsafe operating condition at a specific facility.
Dr. Tung seconded the motion
The motion was approved unanimously.
Semi-Public Pool – Conditions of Permit Regarding Lifeguards
475 Bedford St (formally Boston Sports Club)
Dr. Geller made a motion that the Lexington Board of Health approve the permit application for
the pool permit for 475 Bedford St Indoor Pool under the condition that all swim coaches submit
their Life Guard Certification as part of the permit application. This Variance will expire at the
end of the permit date of April 30, 2025, to be reviewed by the Lexington Board of Health on or
before that date or upon notification of an unsafe operating condition at a specific facility.
Dr. Tung seconded the motion
The motion was approved unanimously
Update: Comments on the town-funded study of Hanscom’s impacts on air
quality in Lexington and surrounding communities
Dr. Heiger-Bernays provided the Board with an update on the status of the Draft Environmental
Impact Report. She discussed the issues and concerns she had raised at the Hanscom Area Towns
Committee (HATC) meeting, such as parts of Hanscom are super fund sites and they are
overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and or Department of Environmental
Protection (DEP). Permits would be needed to excavate and remove material from these sites due
to the presence of contaminants.

National Public Health Week Recap
Ms. Belanger provided a brief update on the activities organized for National Public Health
Week by the Health Department and in collaboration with other town departments. This included
a movie showing "Below the Belt," a documentary about endometriosis, the Dose of Nature
Walk, and other activities.

Highlights:
1. MS. Belanger informed the Board she has already attended 2 Town meetings.
2. Ms. Belanger and Ms. McCartin attended the NACCHO Preparedness Summit in
Cleveland Ohio.
3. Ms. Belanger informed the Board of the rabid raccoon incident in town that involved a
resident and her dog.
4. Ms. Belanger stated she is still attending the weekly shelter meeting
