Battin, Chairman TO: Board of Selectmen DATE: 6/25/84 FROM: Peter M. Chalpin, Chairm SUBJECT. Pleasant Street Traffic Safety Committee Ms Goldstein At its meeting of 6/20/84 , the Traffic Safety Committee met with Mr. & Mrs. Goldstein of 5 Lawrence Lane to discuss their concerns regarding traffic on Pleasant Street. It was explained to the Goldsteins that Pleasant Street is currently governed by the Fundamental Speed Law and, this being the case, the speed limit is 30 mph. Prior to our meeting, I had asked the Police Department to conduct a speed study under the Fundamental Speed Law. It was found that of 166 vehicles checked on two days, 164 were travelling at 30 to 35 mph and two at 40 to 45 mph. Based on this, and the small number of accidents, the Committee cannot identify a problem on Pleasant Street This notwithstanding, the Committee feels that since Pleasant Street is the only walking route from the Concord Avenue area to the Bowman School and its playground facilities, a sidewalk on the easterly side from Concord Avenue to Worthen Road should be considered. Consideration should also be given to extending a sidewalk to Watertown Street at a future time. We explained to the Goldsteins that, in addition to this recommendation, the Police Department would increase their presence on Pleasant Street as manpower permits. Those in attendance : Peter M.
