HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-11-18-TSAC-min-re Polhill.pdf 4 TOWN OF LEXINGTON TRAFFIC SAFETY ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEMORANDUM TO• John C Eddison, Chairman DATE: November 20, 1987 Board of Selectmen FROM: Peter M Chalpin, Chairma SUBJECT• Hancock St /Adams Street Traffic Safety Advisory Co,-~ ee At its meeting of November 18, 1987, the Traffic Safety Advisory Committee met with Mrs. Joseph Polhill and others to discuss traffic at the Hancock Street Rotary and on Adams Street We recommend installing three "Rotary Traffic" signs on the Hancock Street rotary This should eliminate any confusion as to who has the right-of-way These signs have been on the rotary in the past Concerning speeding on Adams Street, we recommend increased enforcement, which has already begun D P W has been alerted with respect to the manholes, and repairs will be made if necessary The issue of truck traffic was also, and again, raised by the group Since the requirements of the Massachusetts D P W for a Truck Exclusion Permit on Adams Street have not changed since 1983 when the group first made this request, we told them that trucks could not be excluded at this time (Enclosed is backup from 1983 which resulted in denial of a Permit by Massachusetts D P W ) The Committee suggested that the residents approach Quinn Perkins to request a voluntary ban, which worked well in 1983 Those in Attendance• Peter M Chalpin Dr Clarke Mrs. Kabat-Zinn Sgt Repose PMC m Enclosure cc: Richard J White Town Manager Richard E Spiers Director D P W /Engineering Francis X.
