MEMORANDUM
TO Peter M Chalpin, Chairman
Traffic Safety Advisory Committee
FROM Eric T Clarke, Acting Chairman
Traffic Safety Advisory Committee
SUBJECT 6 February 1985 Meeting
DATE 9 February 1985
This meeting suffered from low attendance not only by Committee
members but also by invited members of the public Those present
Eric T Clarke, Acting Chairman
John Maloney
Robert Hickey, Sgt , Police Department
The following agenda items were discussed
Bedford Street Following Peter's written recommendation, this item
was referred to the Engineering Department for further information and
recommendations The item concerned the verbal request of Eileen O'Leary
for "walk" signalization at Bedford/Revere/Hill Streets The intersection
currently carries a flashing yellow light which would have to be replaced
by a regular traffic light should the pedestrian signal be approved
Discussion revealed that those present believed this would be appropriate
whether or not the "walk" signal were installed
Woburn Street Driveway (Because Raymond Ho, the proponent, was
unable to attend the meeting, this item has been rescheduled to 20
February ) Sgt Hickey provided the Committee with a report by Sgt
Corr concluding that existing signs along Woburn Street appear to be
adequate, that Mr Ho's problem is not different from that of neighboring
driveways, and recommending that Mr Ho be urged to back into his
driveway (or rearrange his drive, if possible) so that his car would emerge
head first into Woburn Street The Committee concurred in these findings
and recommendation
Right Turn on Red Armed with the 25 January 1985 list of traffic
signals throughout the Town, the Committee discussed the desirability
of such turns at each of the listed intersections, and concluded the following
Bedford Street and Worthen Road; Mass Ave and
Waltham Street RTOR should not be considered at these
because high levels of pedestrian traffic would make these
too dangerous

Waltham Street and Concord Ave Bedford Street and
Simonds Road. RTOR is acceptable at these intersections
because of relatively light pedestrian flow
Lowell Street and East Street RTOR now permitted from
Lowell Street westbound onto East Street (through slip ramp)
RTOR's from Lowell Street eastbound onto East Street and
from East Street northbound onto Lowell Street might be
acceptable, though high traffic levels might make these difficult
Bedford Street and Hartwell Avenue Currently RTOR is
permitted from Hartwell Ave , though there was some confusion
on whether this is permitted in the absence ofthe green arrow
Lowell Street and Maple Street Additional RTOR's probably
acceptable from Winchester Street northbound onto Lowell Street,
and from Lowell Street eastbound onto Winchester Street
Traffic Rules The Committee was interested in Stanley Toye's ideas,
but in his absence recommended that this item be postponed to the
20 February meeting so that Mr Toye could participate
