Mr Burnell then reviewed the status of the project
including the meeting with the State DPW in February,
the revision of the plan by Boston Survey Consultants,
submission of the plan to the State by BSC (without
the Selectmen' s knowledge) , and the approval by the
State of that plan if we would agree to closing the

was presented with the draft of a reply to the State
prepared by Dick Cooke (BSC) and Jack Eddison
A lengthy discussion ensued exploring the issues, al-
ternatives, and the appropriate action to be taken
Mr Burnell then asked for any motions appropriate to
the issues It was moved by Bob Fitzmaurice and sec-

the recently submitted plan After a short debate the
motion was defeated by a vote of 2-yes and 6-no
It was then moved by Uoward Smith and seconded by
Larry Smith to respond to the State "that should ser-
ious problems or accidents occur at Eldred Street that
signalization of the intersection be considered rather
than closing the median and that the Town participate
in that process " The debate which followed weighed
heavily on distrust of the State DPW With a vote of
4-yes and 4-no the motion failed to attain a majority
It was then moved by Larry Smith and seconded by Mike
Miller that we respond to the State that if there are
problems the intersection should be signalized before
considering any other action After further discus-
sion it was
