V 1985 ANNUAL TOWN MEETING BOARD OF SELECTMEN REPORT ON FAIR HOUSING RESOLUTION The Fair Housing Resolution is concerned with the issues of racial , ethnic, and economic diversity of the population in Lexington and with encouraging the development of reasonable priced housing The Resolution requires the Board of Selectmen to report to the Annual Town Meeting on progress in achieving fair housing objectives Particular points of interest are 1 The Board of Selectmen designated a Fair Housing Committee in October 1984, which met five times in 1984 and five times to date in 1985 2 The Lexington Housing Assistance Board (LexHAB) has monitored the sale of 60 condominium units in the former Muzzey School to moderate income buyers 3 LexHAB has recommended tenant selection guidelines for the ten units it will own in Muzzey Members of the Fair Housing Committee have met with LexHAB and the Board of Selectmen to discuss fair housing issues in relation to tenant selection. There will be an outreach plan designed to create a diverse pool of applicants for these units, and minority status will be a factor in rental 4 The Board of Selectmen recommends the Greater Boston Community Development proposal for the reuse of the Franklin School This proposal is for mixed income rental apartments 5 The Board of Selectmen recommended Town support for the Lexington Housing Authority's proposal to develop a site on Hill Street for housing for retarded citizens It has been approved by Special Town Meeting, pending Board approval of specific plans The proposal will be funded by E 0 C D and the Department of Mental Health 6 Accessory apartment regulations have been approved and permits are available 7 Since the inception of the Fair Housing Policy in 1981, the number of units under the jurisdiction of the Lexington Housing Authority has increased by 68 to 304 units Minority occupancy consists of 16 families and/or individuals 8 The Town has received no reports of complaints on Fair Housing issues during the year
