PRESENT Mr Brenchick (Chmn. Pro tem), Mrs Litchfield, Mrs. Reed, Mr Gaughan,
Mr Fitzgerald and Mrs Hall.
VISITORS Mr Neil Cronin, Parade Advisory Committee & Chamber of Commerce;
Keith Thompson and Mr Thompson, Demolay (4 Sandy Brook Road, Burlington) ;
Jackie Bateson & Roger Williams, High School Co-op
PATRIOTS DAY
Mr. Brenchick went over the Float applications and rules for same with our
visitors Mr Cronin discussed the trophies which are given by the Chamber of
Commerce as first prizes in the three float categories Civic, Youth and
Commercial.
A motion was made and seconded and passed that the TCC take the necessary steps
to go before the Board of Selectmen and the Appropriations Committee with a
request for an additional $4,000 00 for our budget over the next 18-month period.
A letter from Mr Gillespie, Band Master at the Senior High School, was read which
asked our Committee for more money this year to help in their uniform purchases
These purchases are imperative, and our, Committee voted unanimously to double our
usual donation to the band of $50.00 per performances on Patriots Day Therefore,
Mrs Litchfield will inform Mr Gillespie that he can expect $100 00 from our
Committee this year for Patriots Day participation, and that if we have any
overage of funds after Patriots Day expenses, we will attempt to add more money
to that $100.00.
C) The Massachusetts Maritime Academy is sending its 25-piece band and a marching
unit for our. PM parade
The Coast Guard Academy, in New London, Connecticut, will send a 46-man marching
unit for our PM parade under the following conditions that we pay $3.00 per man
for luncheon, in advance, and that we pay 750 a mile for transportation (about
200 miles) The Committee has taken this matter under consideration.
Mrs Litchfield will invite the Athol High School Band to march in our PM parade.
She will call The Leathernecks Drum & Bugle Corps pf Maldeq and inquire about
their charges for participation in our PM parade. She will call Norwich University
to check on whether or not they will be marching with us this year. And she will
call the National Guard Ar�mor?'!y to get a definite commitment from them. She will
contact the Aleppo Temple 1a price on their Brass Band Our Committee would
like to offer them another $100 00 for that band. She will invite our military
dignitaries and guests (Town. State and Federal) to join us on April 16th.
USS LEXINGTON.
May 6th is the day for our annual memorial service for the men lost during the
sinking of the USS LEXINGTON on May 8, 1942 during the Battle of the Coral Seas
Lexington has been presented the flag flown by that particular ship This is a
great honor, and our Committee has been charged with trying do find a suitable
location for its display
At next week's meeting (March 15th) , Mr O'Connell and Town Department members he
invites will meet with us at 7.30pm to discuss with representatives of the
Lexington Minute Men the upcoming re-enactment of the Battle of. Lexington which
will take place at 5.30am on April 16th TCC members are asked to make every
effort to attend Meeting location. Room G-5.
