Barnes, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Reed, Mr Fitzgerald, Mr Brenchick, Mr Gaughan and Mrs. Hall. VISITORS Chief James Corr and James Lima, Police Department; Kingston Howard, Chairman, Bi-centennial Committee; Lt. Comdr. William J. Dailey, Jr , USNR, This year's Chief Marshal. PATRIOTS DAY: Chief Corr discussed our new parade route which he clocked at 4.1 miles. He asked that the Committee consider his proposed parade route which clocks at 2.2 miles. It would run from Worthen Rd. to Waltham St. , down Waltham St. to Mass Ave. , down Mass. Ave. staying right at the statue, down Bedford St. to the Fire Station, and back to Worthen Rd. Mr. Howard invited the Town Celebrations Committee to a joint meeting of TCC and the B1-centennial Committee on Wednesday, April 11th at. S.30pm in Room G-15. TCC members will make every effort to attend in order to smoothly coordinate Patriots Day plans for 1975. Mr. Howard was asked for his observations and suggestions of last year's pared®- which our Committee gratefully welcomed. Points in mention were. (1) Pau* Revere's arrival in Town was a very poor performance; (2) There is no transportation, such as one or two buses, for our own High School Band to the parade's beginning; resulting in too many unnecessary cars coming and going; (3) The communications set-up betreen police cars was excellent; (4) There was very poor military representation in the let division, and practically no 2nd division, which is the veterans division; the Minute Man group from Concord completely disrupted our 3rd division, and cone Sequently our parade, and this condition should not be allowed to continue;: the new parade route needs lots of publicity in metropolitan :Boston areas as well as in Lexington. Mn .sLitchfield will contact the Cumberland Exchange Group (12 girls) to say we'd. like ,then in our parade. She will contact the Leapin' Lena trick car personnel to say we capnot use them this year ,A. letter was read from Neil Cronin of the Parade Advisory Committee to our .Committee. Mra. -Litchfield will answer that letter, with a copy tre Mr. Howard The main subject Matter was the parade route for this year, and how it would work for the next few years. Mr, Baenes welcomed Bill Dailey, our Chief Marshal, and briefed him on his parade rempon©ibilities. Mc. Brenchick will check with the Parade Advisory Committee, he being a member of same, Vises: if additional arm bands will be required for monitoring parades, etc The Elks of Lexington will be marching in the PM parade with their District Officers and a possible float. Fleepo The Clown will again be marching as well as calling the dance. numbers _for the Happy Toe Square Dancers who perform on their float. The Methuen High School Cadet Corps will be marching also. We will work out details with Arlington's Parade Committee for welcoming the 45-man colonial marching unit from Ft Meyers, Virginia who will march in Arlington in the Vl morning, and in our afternoon parade. \:' Mr Lord will contact the C & W Transportation Company for a bus to be available for the ` ) marching unit from Ft. Meyers. It would have to be available for the whole day Also, Mr Lord would see to it that the Field House at the High School is opened with a i" custodian present before the parade and afterwards too. He will also be responsible IP-Pifer transporting our lady guests from the luncheon to the reviewing stand C. r Town Celebrations Committee minutes, continued . Mara 1, 1973 Page TWO Mrd.. Litchfield will write to the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars to say that our Committee will allow only $1.00 "per marching member in uniform" in our afternoon parade toward their collations following that parade. Mrs. Hall will contact Mr. Lund of the Lexington Minute Men and Mr O'Connell, Z,own Manager to set up a meeting with our Committee on Thursday, March 15th at 1000m. in Room 0-5. The re-enactment of the Battle of :Lexington by the Minute Men will be discussed at that meeting. Mr O'Connell will' be asked to invite Any Town Department Heads. he feels should be present at this discussion. Mrs Fenske reports that Doug Maxner has our Spirit of '76 costumes, wigs, etc. at his house. She also reports. that her son, David, would again like to be, a member of the Spirit of '76.
