Barnes, Mr Lord, Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Reed, Mr Fitzgerald, Mr Brenchick, Mr Gaughan and Mrs Hall VISITORS Mr Roland Greeley, Mr Robert Harris, and Mrs Whitman, Members of the Workshop '75 Steering Committee PATRIOTS DAY Mr Harris explained that the Workshop '75 Steering Committee was working toward sponsoring an evening forum to take place on April 19th this year1and in successive yearsywhich would create an environment to think about patriotism and to sustain an interest in patriotism and not take it for granted Noted speakers would be involved and public participation would be encouraged Their proposal for this forum was given our okay, and they were asked to give our Committee a definite time and date for clearing house purposes Our Committee will recognize this activity but not endorse it Mr Greeley asked if our Committee had anything to do with the White Tricorn Hat Award We told him we did not, and that it was a Lions Club activity with a special committee appointed whose members represent each Lexington civic or- ganization and members of the clergy Mr Harris asked if any of our Committee would want to work with the Workshop '75 Steering Committee on a coordinating basis Mr Barnes explained that the Town Celebrations Committee provides moral support only Mr Harris asked what clubs or groups might be interested in this forum. We suggested Lexington's civic (I) organizations, the League of Women Voters, the Historical Society, the D.A.R. , the Veterans organizations, etc. Mr Harris was told our Committee would include this forum in our Patriots Day publicity The Committee received a letter from 2nd Lt D. Peter Lund of the Lexington Minute Men announcing he has been selected Chairman of the Committee responsible for the 1973 re-enactment of the Battle of Lexington to take place on Monday, April 16th. Our Committee will call a meeting of the Minute Men, Town Manager, and representatives of the various Town departments soon to formulate plans for this re-enactment Mr Barnes will write to the Veterans of Foreign Wars and to the American Legion (Lexington groups) to say our Committee will allow each organization $1 00 per "marching member in uniform" in our afternoon parade toward each of their collations following the parade A maximum of $150 00 will be allowed each organization It is interesting to note that in the inaugural parade in Washington, D.C. , there were 130 units which passed the reviewing stand in 90 minutes, which figures out to be about 1 unit every 40 seconds!! Hanscom Field will be sending us a 30-man marching unit for our PM parade. Mrs Litchfield will inform St Agnes' Bands of Arlington that we will be in touch with them soon regarding their being in our PM parade Their bands consist of 108 boys and girls between the ages of twelve through twenty years We will be delighted to have 40 Naval Aviators from the Naval Air Training Command Station in Pensacola, Florida in our afternoon parade. fa 14 1973 Town Celebrations Committee minutes continued. February 8, 1973 Page Two Mrs Litchfield will contact Mrs Moyle and ask that she again cater our reception after the afternoon parade. Mrs. Hall will contact Mr. Michelson regarding gifts for our lady guests at our Patriots Day luncheon which will take place at the Sheraton Lexington Motor Inn at noon on Monday, April 16th A letter from the Girl Scout Council asks if we could use Girl Scouts as Aides in our afternoon parade. The Committee liked the idea, and definite plans for this offer will be formulated at our Youth Group Meeting next week. Mr Barnes will call the Minute Man Council of the Boy Scouts of America to complain about the communication between our Committee and the Lexington Boy Scout troops This Committee has tried repeatedly to get to the troop level, but the communication lines seem non-existent! At next week's- meeting, February 15th, we will welcome representatives from the Lexington Youth groups at 7 30pm in the large conference room, G-15. *Please note the change in meeting place. Mr Barnes will invite the armed forces for our bi-centennial celebration and (I) parades, requesting that they send color guards, bands, marching units, etc. Respectfully submitted, Marilyn L.
