CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTE_, of Commission meeting February 22 , 1971
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman i`,r Mown at
8 p m , with Mrs ;'rick and Dr Kassler present Also present
were associate members Messrs Friedman, Reiner and Smith and
Mrs Solomon and League of Women Voters observer, Mrs Carter
RH Proposals
Meagherville
In light of the recent letter from the Department of Natural
Resources on protection of the Shawsheen River watershed, only
the RH area on higher ground could be considered Commission
agreed to support rezoning of the upper area (Hickory Street
site ) provided that its development would meet the requests of
the DNR letter of February 12 , 1971 , regarding safeguards for
the Shawsheen watershed
Rezoning of Bow Street area opposed because its development at
this time would be an apparent moral ethical and moral viola-
tion of the Hatch Act
Mark Moore Carol Lane proposal Commission cannot take a stand
on the housing issue but would be happy to accept the piece
of triangular-shaped land on the easterly side of the 3 & M
railroad tracks An article proposing the Town acquire this
piece of land has appeared on the warrant two times and been
postponed because the owner was not ready to sell
Report of CLC Meeting In the past the CLC has asked why the
Commission has not accomplished more (land acquisition) . Com-
mission recommended / should be more understanding and helpful CLC
Mr Friedman said that the organization has voted to donate a
Polaroid camera and one roll of film to the Commission.
McCloskey' s March 6 talk Mr Sussman will write a letter to
the Minute Man, andA picture will also appear Recommended M` 'Claskeys
announcement be made at Candidates Night The following should
also be informed
Service Clubs - by Mr Brown
League of Women Voters - Mrs Solomon
Other Conservation Commissions - Mr. Friedman
Mass Audubon Society
DNR
Recommended that letter should state that it is an open free
lecture , with seating on a first -come first -served basis
Assessors Maps Mr Brown will ask Engineering Office for a set
March Meetings March 1 (a quick meeting from 8 to 9) March 9 ,
and March 15- and 22 (7 30rduring Town Meeting)
After executive discussion, the meeting adjourned at 10 25 p.m ,
until March 1 at 8 p m n
