The meeting was called to order by the Vice-Chairman, Dr. Kassler, at 8: 05 p.m. , with Commission members Mr. Cohen, Mesdames Frick and Rawls and ex-officio Mr. Mazeral, plus Associate Members Dr. Friedman and Mesdames Nichols and Solomon and League of Women Voters observer Paula Alden. Picture in Minute Man.commended for its beauty, shows a part of the Oxford Street Playground which is an ins'gral part .of the Great Meadow. DNR Wetlands Restriction has been applied to 94 acres lying mostly in Wellesley, it was reported in the November 7 Boston Globe. Another similar restriction is pending in Barnstable. Ford Foundation Grants. Dr. Friedman reported that he spoke with Arthur Brownell, who promised that information would be forth- coming in the form of a brochure to be distributed in the near future. Minutes of the November 1 open session were accepted with the following amendment: that the "unnamed resident" should be stricken and the words, "Mrs. Alrick Carlson of Monument Beach, sister of John Modoono" and the word"Modoono" added after "Steeves" in the paragraph headed Name Your Land, page 1. Meeting Room-Office. The Commission recommended Dr. Kassler talk with the Town Manager about office needs, including files and place to store and display maps. Tophet Swamp and the Dumn. The Town will be hearing from the Town of Bedford a request to limit filling and pollution prob- lems in the Tophet Swamp. The League of Women Voters has estimated that the Town would have to invest about $$3,000 to $6,000 to pro- vide basic equipment for starting a more complete recycling pro- gram, including glass and compost and possibly other items. Com- mission agreed it should be in favor of measures to cut down sanitary land-fil land requirements. Regional meeting of Tree Wardens will hear Dr. Friedman as panelist on the relationship of the Tree Warden to the Conservation Commis- sion on December 2. Review of Procedure for Applications. Now that signed options are or will soon be available for the Ballou, Titelbaum and Cooke pur- chases, the Secretary will revise the partially-prepared applica- tions and prepare a resolution and motion approving use of funds from the Conservation Fund for passage at the November 15 meeting. Salt Use on Roads. Agreed to discuss this informally with Selectmen.
