The meeting was called to order by Mr. Brown at 7:55 p.m.4; with Mes.. dames Frick and Rawls, Mr. Cohen and Dr. Kessler as well as Mesdames Nichols and Solomon and Messrs Friedman Mazerall and Smith present. Minutes of the September 13 meeting of the Commission were accepted as submitted. Minutes of the September 20 meeting were accepted with the following changes: Paragraph headed Conservation Cels should continue "simi. lar to those set down by the Brookline•se, (etc.) first 3 words substituted for the word, "as". On page 2, first paragraph, (Bur. lington.Rte. 3) should be added as explanation. Report from Recreation Committee. Mrs. Solomon reported on last weekas meeting of the Recreation Committee$ 1. That Herbert Eisenberg is now working on a plan for bicycle paths throughout Town, with a view to submission of an article requesting funding. It was noted that his very preliminary plans include land along the Vine Brook not yet owned by the Town. 2: A Riding Ring is now being planned in Willards Woods. Paul Lloyd will set it up. A look-see took place this morning. The Commission suggested the best location would be on the Hathaway Road side. Suggested Mr. Lloyd get in touch with the Commission. The Commission joined the Planning Board meeting at 8:55 and executive session was declared between 9:00 and 10:17 p.m. Ballow. Mr. Brown told the Planning Board that although the pos- sibility of a playing field had been discussed with the Planning Board and Recreation Committee during preliminary planning stages before Town Meeting, the Commission had said that its approval of such a plan would be dependent upon Mrs. Ballouss approval. Since the area under consideration was quite close to Mrs. Bailouts home, this approval was not given and the Commission dropped all mention of this type of recreational use. The Commission still endorses the idea of recreational use of conservation land, where feasible. Mass* Association of Conservation Commissions will hold its annual meeting (including lunch) on Saturday, October 16, at the Yankee Drummer Inn in Auburn. Agreed the. Commission should pay for two representatives to go. Mesdames Solomon, Rawls and Greene expressed tentative interest in attending. Letters Sent out by Chairman included the following: 9/20/71 To DELegro including complete information for drawing of option. 9/21/71 To Mr. Legro explaining that plan of Wilsonts land LitJ u Conservation Commission minutes 9/27/71 Page 2 does indeed show all the land that the Commission has arranged to purchase. 9/27/71 . Environmental Impact statement on Route 2 rebuilding west of Route 128, as agreed upon at Commission meeting of 9/20/71 (Mr. Brown to W.C. O'Connell) Incoming letters Mr. Gibson of the High School Social Studies Department has asked if High School students may visit open meetings of the Commission in connection with a course on community decision.-making. Mrs. Greene will reply in enthusiastic affirmative. MLPC has requested open space plan of Town so that new master open space plan can be prepared including expanded area of 102 towns and cities. Mrs. Greene or Mrs. Frick will send them an extra copy of the 1968 plan,. Letter received from telephone company that all utilities poles on Titelbaum purchase have been moved to private property. Mr. Brown will thank them. Mr. Brown will also send a thank you note to Joseph Reiner for his thoughtful letter of resignation. Meetings during October will all be on Monday nights at 7:45 p.n.s in the Committee Meeting Room, Second Floor of Police Department, unless other space arrangements must be made.
