COMMITTEE ON• AIR POLLUTION
November 29, 1971
Board of Selectmen
Town of Lexington,
Massachusetts
Gentlemen
On November 16 , 1970, the Committee on Air Pollution wrote
you requesting its life be extended through calendar 1971.
The end of this year is at hand, and our Committee members
agree that the Committee as such should expire.
During the course of the year we have discussed ways that
environmental problems could be handled within the Town
government structure. Finally, at our meeting of November
18, 1971, we voted, after careful consideration of possibili-
ties and practicalities, that a new environmental protection
committee should be formed under the direction and aegis of
the Conservation Commission
Our group also voted to recommend that the 1972 budget of
the Commission be increased by S250 to cover expenses of
the new group As we see it, the function of this new com-
mittee would be for education on and study of environmental
problems - a function for which no other Town body has suf-
ficient time, personnel or resources.
We appreciate your past cooperation and careful attention to
the above recommendation If there are any further questions,
please feel free to contact either me or Mrs. Greene.
Sincerely yours,
COMMITTEE ON AIR POLLUTION
