I is warranted The incremental visual value received does not warrant ,, the money requested Recommended Unfavorable action - original request $60 ,000 i`, 1 ARTICLE 4 SWAP OF "CENTRAL BLOCK" FRONTAGE FOR FIRE STATION LOT r, ; We approve of this original land swap as being a sound transaction for both the Town and the landowners It will result in the new con- struction being in line with the existing center area, as well as t producing neededtax revenue Recommended Favorable action - no funds requested ! ARTICLE 5 ACQUISITION OF HARRINGTON PROPERTY We are not persuaded that the aesthetic reasons for this acquisi- t' tion warrant this expenditure or other future monies that may be re- quired C Recommended Unfavorable action - original request $33, 000 t' ARTICLE 6 REZONING ACCESS FOR HOUSING AUTHORITY f r. No recommendation I, ARTICLE 7 CONVEYANCE OF LAND TO ARTS AND CRAFTS SOCIETY Recommended Favorable action ARTICLE 8 BOWMAN SCHOOL ROOF RECONSTRUCTION We have verified that this roof is in urgent need of extensive e repair It must be fixed this summer At this writing (June 7) we % are unhappy to report that the information given us as to the costs I of repair, ultimate responsibility for the situation, and the possi- bility of eventual recompence is not sufficient for us to conclude that this matter is being handled either expeditiously or in the 1 -2- best interest of the Town We lament being in the position of having to approve proposals that leave us unhappy in terms of cost details and design standards If the information available at Town Meeting time is still unsatisfactory, then we will ask the Town Meeting to delay final approval of this spending by moving to adjourn the Town Meeting until a time certain when definite bids arg available, a responsible committee is in charge, and the Town' segal case against the contractors has been scrupulously prepared Recommended Postpone to a time certain - original request $116 , 000 transfer from E 4 D AtTICLE 9 REPAIRS TO HIGH SCHOOL DUE TO FIRE Obviously, this fire damage must be repaired But we again find, ipost unhappily, that this matter is not being handled expeditiously or in a manner that instills confidence in us that the cost estimates will eventually be honored by the insurer Until such time as defi- nite costs are determined, based on approved specifications, we can- not ask the Town Meeting to approve this project If the situation is still the same at Town Meeting time, we will move to postpone action to a time certain when we can have confidence in how this repair will be carried out Recommended Postpone to a time certain - original request $60, 000 dj to be raised in the tax levy ARTICLE 10 BUFFER STRIP ON BURLINGTON LINE We believe it is important to protect this residential area Brom the potential heavy traffic that would result from its being used as an access to an industrial park and the consequent damage to taxable values Recommended: Favorable action - original request $35 , 000 !{ ARTICLE 11 AMENDMENT TO TOWN MANAGER ACT �d No recommendation. ARTICLE' 12 ENLARGE CONSERVATION COMMISSION TO 7 MEMBERS No recommendation.
