rN u SUBJECT Recapitulation of Traffic Committee Activities
FROM, A. V Zaleski, Chairman
TO Town Engineer, & Chief of Police
DATE June 29, 1970
The following represents a recapitulation of matters recently considered by the
Committee and their current status
1 Douglass Parking Lot: plop for striping the lot furnished Selectmen
request information regarding the feasibility, cdbt and availability of
parking meters The plan would require 16 double meters at $112 95 and
2 single meters at $60.50 (all with trade-in) or a total of about $2,000
All..meters would have to be bought and this would require a transfer as
the parking meter appropriation has been used up
2 The Selectraen encourage father study of the Edison Way (making it
two-way rearranging parking) , the study is to he carried out by the office
of the Town Engineer
3. The Trustees of the Library agree to a relocation of the bus stop in
front of the Library, but the Selectmen have not agreed as yet The Select-
men would like us to continue our study of bus stops in the Center generally
4. I have recommended to the Selectmen that the Post Office be requested
to locate a mail box on the other side of Mae Ave near Wallis Ct The
relocation of the mail box near the Town Office Building should be studied
"in conjunction with the traffic pattern ct the Town Office complex"
according to the Selectmen.
5 The Selectmen request that we work to effect the elimination of the
taxi stand near Wallis Ct and the addition of one near the Bamboo But
R Adams was to prepare the revision to the Traffic Rules, his successor
should be now preparing one
6 In re Begelman's opposition to the meat store employees parking in
lxibbert St , following our initial negative report to the Selectmen on
April 15 I received two additional written and one verbal request from
Mr Cataldo urging the Committee to meet with Mrs Begelman and with the
parkers end advice them that, unless they settle their dispute, the Select-
men may prohibit all, parking in this location As you know, both Mr and
Mrs Bapelman claim to be unable to come to a meeting of this Committee
because of helath conditions or business demands.
7 The request for "stop" sign at Gleason-Puller Rd Selectmen advised
that traffic count will be carried out by the Engineering Division to
permit a re-submission of application to the State DPW
8 I have transmitted to Mr Cataldo our recommendation that the DPW put
a sign "To Grant St " on Sherman St at Fletcher Ave junction.

9 The Selectmen have been advised of our recommendations in re Isabelle
Cummings, 4 Pleasant St , Copies of memo have been sent to you
10 The Selectmen have requested that our Center study include the question
of traffic light timing
I'believe the present channels of communication and procedures of the Traffic
Committee can be speeded up and made more efficient and effective. I am
discussing this with the Town Manager and, when specific proposals are
formulated, will bring them before the Committee.
