HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-12-05-BOLT-min Trustees of the Cary Memorial Library – Executive Board Meeting Thursday, December 5, 2024 Cary Memorial Library Genealogy Room Call to Order 8:05 a.m. – Jill Hai, Chair Trustees: Jill Hai, Eileen Jay, Karen Thomashow, Suzie Barry Staff: Koren Stembridge, Laura Bernheim, Alissa Lauzon, Cathie Ghorbani Friends of Cary Library: Ethie Slate Cary Library Foundation: Mary Ellen Ringo Public Comment – none Secretary Minutes – September 4, 2024 Executive Board Meeting. Motion to approve, Hai. Second, Jay. Unanimous. Administrative Updates  Koren Stembridge gave an update on construction progress. As of this date, Mark Barrett (Town of Lexington Project Manager) believes that the project is on budget and that the work will be completed at the end of next summer. The opening date for the lower level will likely be early September.  The Town of Lexington has requested an updated valuation of the library’s Fine Art Collection. An appraiser has been retained for this purpose.  IDEAS Team: The library’s IDEAS team (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Access, Staffing) met with Town Chief Equity Officer, Hemali Shah, to discuss next steps for DEI work at the Town level and the library.  World Languages Librarian, Jie Li, recently collaborated with the Japanese Support Group of Lexington (JLex) to procure more Japanese items to the collection.  Thanks to staff members, Bridgette Cavaliere, Jennifer Webb, and others, the David Reiner Papers are now available online. The David Reiner papers are, “documents concerning the work of the Lexington Civil Rights Committee between 1960-1972 and the Lexington/Boston Fair Housing Federation from 1961-1965. New Business  Koren Stembridge introduced an updated Rules of Behavior policy which has been reviewed by the Town Attorney. Motion to “accept the updated “Rules of Behavior Policy” with the proposed amendments” by Hai. Second, Thomashow. Unanimous.  Stacey Fraser of the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum and Library has requested the loan of two pieces of art from the Library’s collection for their upcoming exhibition “Protest & Promise: The American Revolution in Lexington” which runs from February 2025 – June 2027. Motion to “lend the artwork to the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum for the purpose and time requested and that the terms will be finalized by the Library Director, Town of Lexington Council, and the Chair of the Cary Memorial Library Board of Trustees” by Hai. Second, Jay. Unanimous.  Board members toured several library spaces regarding possible programmatic changes. There was a consensus that these changes were worth exploring with more details to follow. Adjournment – Motion to adjourn at 9:07 a.m. by Hai. Second, Barry. Unanimous.
