j CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES of Commission meeting July 13 , 1970
The meeting was called to order at 7 45 by Chairman Stanley
Brown, with Mrs Frick , Dr Kassler and. Messrs . Mazerall ,
Smith and Sussman present
At 8 p m the Commission met with the Planning Board, Recrea-
tion Committee and Design Advisory Board (with the Selectmen
and School Committee unable to attend) to discuss the proposal
of Benjamin Franklin Homes, Inc. to develop 180 acres of land
between Maple Street and Woburn Street . Preliminary plans
from the developer show 206 house lots. See attached Minute
Man report.
HUD Study. Mr Brown will meet with John Leiss of Watertown
on Land Inventory , Tuesday , July 14.
Receipt from HUD of $22 ,177.38 check as partial payment for
Whipple Hill acquisition. Since the parcel is still under
litigation, it was suggested that the actual $ figure not
be publicized yet.
Notice from DNR on additional wording needed on Application
8 , 9, and 10 deeds. Mr. Brown will take this up with the
Town Manager.
Land Acquisition Articles. A letter from the Board of Select-
men on wording was discussed.
Planning Board Request for an updating of land acquisition
priorities at an early meeting was received.
Cooke Proverty. Mr. Smith has sent a letter to the Board of
Selectmen outlining the conditions which have been brought up
since the original drawing of the option, among them a frontage
variance needed from the Board of Appeals.
Valleyfield St. Hatch Act Hearing. Mr. Brown read a letter from
the Board of Selectmen to Com r. Sprague of DNR stating that
the land in question could be filled with certain engineering
restrictions. Commission discussion centered around its
strong request for not filling and the fact that this testimony
had not been mentioned in the letter to the DNR as part of the
hearing. Mr. Brown will speak with the Town Manager and the
DNR.
Meeting with Town Manager and Heads of Committees & Boards. Mr.
O'Connell discussed better means of communication within the
structure of Town government . He asked for lists of members
of each Board, Committee and Commission.
Grant St. abbuttors (Art . 82 , 1969), Letters have been received
from Walsh and Davis. The former would like to continue discus-
sion and cooperate and the latter would not .

Great Meadows Dr. Meyer of the Arlington Great Meadow Committee
would like to meet with the Lexington Great Meadow Committee
and then meet with Camp, Dresser & McKee to discuss a more
professional approach to the contract . Dr. Kassier will talk
with him. VOTED to pay the outstanding bill covering April
25 through May 23 for 3573.45.
Acquisitions Each member was asked to prepare his own list
and give priorities and to present and discuss at the next
meeting
The meeting adjourned at 11 00 p m. until Monday, July 27.
