HomeMy WebLinkAbout1970-10-26-CONCOM-min.pdf TOWN OF LEXINGTON , MASSACHUSETTS CONSERVATION COMMISSION MINUTES of Commission meeting October 26 , 1970 The meeting was called to order at 8 15 p m. , by the Chairman Mr. Blown, with Mrs Frick, Dr Kessler and Mr Mazerall present Also in attendance were members of the Capital Expenditures Com- mittee Carl Blake , Chairman, Van Boughton, Robert Kingston, and Lee Whitman and League of Women Voters observer Josette Carter and Citizens for Lexington Conservation observer Don Deily Review of all Open Articles. Of the articles for which state and federal aid has been applied, only Crawford (Art 70, '69) has not been fully purchased. Articles 75, 77 , 82 , and 83 of ' 69 have not been pursued by the Commission and Article 81 of '66 awaits builder' s determination of land available. Taken by eminent domain and subject to financial revision by court de- cision are Whipple Hill-Hamilton (now in litigation) , Kingston Homes and Buse. 1970 Articles were reviewed. The Capital Expenditures Committee recommended that the Baskin Gift land be taken by the Town. (Discussion with the Capital Expenditures Committee was continued in executive session) Brook Cleanup Notification of youth groups is continuing. Mrs. Greene was asked to see if announcement could be made on two or three radio stations and at Diamond Junior High School. The Department of Public Works will supply some hand tools, two power saws and two men with a truck. Town Report. Deadlines for comments on Glossary - November 2; for Part I - December 11, for part II - January 11 . Recommended that the Commission produce the report as last year, by dividing its components among various members. Mrs Frick will prepare a map and write on the Great Meadow; Mr Brown will produce statistics and an up-to-date list of acquisitions; Mr. Smith will be asked to write on the policy and philosophy of the Commission. Conservation Plan is still in progress. Dr. Kassler' s rationale sheet was distributed Mrs. Frick will ask the Planning Board for maps which can be used for both the Plan and for Town Meeting. Charles River Basin is the subject of a thesis of Mrs. Kehoe, a conservation leader in a nearby town Mr Brown will reply with information on the Clematis Brook, which, as Beaver Brook, flows into the Charles River.
