CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES of Commission meeting October 13 , 1970
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman Mr Brown, with
Mrs. Frick and Messrs, Smith and Sussman present, as well as a
visitor, Don Deily.
Report on Potential Reservoir Sites, a study issued by the Depart-
ment of Agriculture , was displayed and given to Mr. Sussman to
read He commented upon the fact that the report covered a large-
ly urban area and was done by an organization to aid farmers.
He wondered who requested the study to be made Action, if any,
he said, should be in light of the fact that Lexington consumes
but does not produce water resources.
Mr Brown' s talk at the High School with Miss Huntley' s group
went well. Mr. Brown or some other Commission will probably be
asked to visit with the Conservation Club, of which Miss Larrey
is faculty advisor. Mr Brown was shown a water testing kit,
which, it is hoped, students will learn to operate .
Brook Cleanup Saturday. October 31. All adult and youth groups
have been or will be notified. An article will appear in the
Minute Man October 15. Mrs. Greene was asked to write an article
for the next issue. She also offered to get in touch with the
Follen Church to obtain permission to use their parking lot
in case parking at the Adams School is not sufficient .

Hatch Act problems?

to get equipment in to dig out peat (for sale? ) Agreed to
send a letter to the Board of Selectmen expressing concern of
the Commission, with copies to Mr. O'Connell and the Planning Board.

office , who advised her to get in touch with the Commission, about
filling of wetland in behind Sellars Dairy. A stream flowing
from Hayden Woods to Hardy' s Pond in Waltham crosses this land.

this, with copies to the Town Manager and Planning Board.

tion Committee informing of their meetings the third Thursday
each month Mrs Frick, Commission representative , will attend
on the 15th of this month Also in the letter was a request
for possible use of conservation land in the Eldred Street
area for a tot lot Currently available are the Chandler
and Advent Christian Church parcels These would also be good
for winter ice skating with a little damming. When purchased,
the Wilson, Frissore and Soule lots would also be available
Installation of fences and children' s play equipment would be
permissible under State and Federal limitations as long as a
permanent structure is not built. Commission members stipulated
that the Commission would retain control over design and loca-
tion of the fencing, such as requiring that the fence be made
of post and rail rather than chain link.
