d CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES of Commission meeting September 28, 1970
The meeting was called to order by the Chairman Mr. Brown, with
Dr Kassler and Messrs Mazerall and Smith present . Mr Manfred
Friedman was present briefly to learn news of the Great Meadow
Study , as reported in last week' s Minutes
Steeves land Various Town officials have concurred with the
findings of Mr. Brown that , indeed , a roadway had been built ,
trees knocked down and the land greatly disturbed, apparently
at about the time the Town was acquiring the land Further in-
vestigation will continue
Whipple Hill area Dr. Kassler and. Mr Mazerall noted tnat fil-
ling had been going on in the area of the Winchester town line.
Doubt expressed that this is on land now owned by the Town
Mr. Mazerall said, he would. be working in the area during the
winter months clearing brush, etc . , so the land car be more ac-
cessible.
Swenson Farm Mr Mazerall said he plans to do one mowing there
A picnt area is cleared and ready to receive tables and fireplaces,
whenever money, labor and materials can be found.

Brook Cleanup Project. '41r Brown offered. to take Before/and after
pictures of the area and. workers A tentative date - November 7 ,
the Saturday after election day , in the morning - was set pending
clearance with Mr O' Connell Dr Kassler will check on this and
then get in touch with the school department ( junior and senior
high students may participate as volunteers ) , Boy Scouts and
Citizens for Lexington Conservation. He will notify Mr B.rowr ,-
who agreed to alert service clubs and Girl Scouts , and Mrs Greene ,
who will he in touch with the League of Women Voters and Camp hire
Girls
DNR Applications 8 & 10 have been delivered. tc Boston and 'gill be
considered at their next Lands Committee meeting, mid-October
Hunting_ Committee Dr Kassler reported that there will be only
three approved hunting areas this fall , a considerable reduction
since last year The Committee will submit an article to abolish
hunting,
Meeting Dates October 5, 13 (Tuesday ) , 19 & 26. November 2 , 10
(Tuesday) , 16 , 23 and 30
Options and Deed for 1969 Articles , 1970 proposals Fir Brown
will check if Town Counsel is awaiting official request from
Board of Selectmen, upon Commission' s written request
Meeting adjourned at 9 13 p m until October 5
