CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES of Commission meeting August 31 , 1970
at 7 55 p.m.
The meeting was called to order/by Mr Smith , Vice-Chairman,
with Mrs Frick, Dr Kassler and Manfred Friedman, visitor,
present
Great Meadow Study Committee members - Frick , Friedman and
Kassler - and Mr. Smith commented favorably on the interim re-
port to Camp, Dresser and McKee from Hailey and Aldrich, a
Cambridge consulting firm Dr Kassler will inquire if 4 or
5 additional copies of the report can be obtained, Mrs. Frick
will show it to Dr Shrock The maps accompanying the report
were considered most valuable.
A new reader of the Sickle Brook flow meter has been found -
the new tenant of the apartment formerly ocupied by Mr Johnson
on Mass Avenue Water is now flowing in that part of the brook,
but not yet in sufficient quantity to reach the meter
It was recommended that letters of thanks be sent all meter read-
ers and other helpers at the conclusion of the study
Conservation Fund.
MOVED and PASSED that the sum of $4,424 he expended from the
Conservation Fund, as follows
$ 308 38 from Article 9, June, 1964
2 ,000 00 from Article 77 , March, 1967
2 ,115.62 from Article 64, March, 1969
Said $4,424 should be added to the authorized amount for pur-
chase of land for conservation purposes under Article 71 ,
March, 1969 (Valleyfield Realty Trust ) A letter to this ef-
fect shall he sent to Richard Perry, Town Comptroller
MOVED and PASSED that a letter be sent to the Town Manager and
Board of Selectmen requesting that the following article be in-
serted in the Warrant for the forthcoming Special Town Meeting
To see if the Town will appropriate an additional sum
of money to the Conservation Fund , established by vote
under Article 9 of the Warrant for the Special Town
Meeting held on June 8 , 1964, and determine whether the
money shall be provided by the current tax levy , by trans-
fer from available funds , including any unexpended balan-
ces in current appropriations , or by any combination of
these methods; or act in any other manner in relation
thereto
Amount requested $5 ,000 (About $300 remains in the
fund after Valleyfield purchase )

Secretary' s Pay and telephone bill for month of August approved.
Capital Expenditures recommendations due to the Town Manager
September 1
OSA-60 - Mrs . Greene reported some problems in obtaining some
of the necessary documents to accompany the partial Requisition
for Grant to he sent September 1 Mr Smith checked the figures
and signed for forms H-6620.
Land-filling off Concord Avenue Mrs Frick reported that ap-
parently the Board of Health had notified the DNR, who sent out
an inspector promptly. Further action under that Hatch Act will
doubtless ensue
The meeting adjourned until Monday, September 14.
