Mrs Spinney commented that the Library' s collection of materials on conservation consists of one map (up to date?) from the Commission Mr Brown will look into this. Clematis Brook Development Proposal Mr and Mrs Spinney have borrowed a copy of the Soil Report & set of 14 maps to assist in the citizen group' s study of the area Their main concern is that the excavation and blacktopping necessary for 190 housing units will have a seriously adverse affect on the Clematis Brook. Mr. Smith explained that the previous conser- vation purchase along the brook was laid out in such a way that Worthen Road with house lots along both sides could be laid out on the Trinity Covenant Church back land (on which high density housing is now contemplated) In any case the floor level of house basements would have to be set by the Planning Board to avoid flooding. Good planning would be required. A Mr McClintock of Belmont and the Sierra Club is interested in representing the citizens group in the area and he would like information from the Commission. It was asked he get in touch with the Commission The Spinneys were advised that if they should decide to peti- tion that the land be used for conservation instead of housing, a lot of convincing of the Commission and Town Meeting would be needed. "You must prove it saves money to acquire land for conservation. " said Mr Friedman. Mrs Frick suggested the CLC could give help 1270 Articles. Despite shortage of time , agreed Commission should apply for 50% State assistance as well as for Federal State will be reduced to 25% if Federal reimbursement is approved Mr Smith has mailed formal requests for options to be drawn on Frissore, Soule and Drummer Boy, complete with information requested.
