HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-05-25-LCC-min.pdf Minut es of the Regular Meeting Held May 25. 1964 Mr Sussman opened the meeting at 8 35 p.m. All members were present except Mr. Ripley. Mrs. Smallman, a local Girl Scout leader, was present by appointment. Minutes of the last meeting were approved. Mrs . Smallman showed the Commission her Scouts ' interesting conservation display which will appear soon at Cary Memorial Library. Her troop ' s participation in projects in the town were discussed. At present, the only one planned is a clean-up of Scout property men- tioned in last week' s minutes. NEW BUSINESS Harrison Acres Mr. Sussman read a letter from the Board of Selectmen, request- ing the opinion of the LCC on possible town acquisition of 5 acres near Willards Woods, which has been offered to the town by the owner. Mr. Sussman and Mr. Mazerall had inspected the landand reported to tie other Commissioners. The matter was discussed on its conservation merits. MR SUSSMAN will write to the Selectmen suggesting that the Town acquire the land. Vine Brook Acres Mr Sussman read a letter from Dr. Martin White concerning a parcel of land composed of woodland and swamp on Vine Brook Rd. This land is owned by the Tarn. Dr. White extolled the land ' s vir- tues as a wildlife area. Mr. Smith said that Dr. White had reported to him that the water table in this swamp had risen since the develop- ment of homes and garden apts. had been begun on Worthen Rd Mr Ells pointed out that this would be valuable as a greenbelt in what is be- Coming a thickly-developed area. Hobbs Btook Basin Mr. Sussman road a letter from Mr. Carl Blake, President of TMMA, in which Mr. Blake expressed the hope that the Commission would be able to secure releases from the State and the City of Cambridge so- that Hobbs Brook Basin can be developed as a recreational area. Mr. Ells reported that he wrote Mr. Mason of the Audubon Society in Lincoln. Mr. Mason replied that he has worked with many Conser- vation Commissions and is always available for advice on conservation planting. The meeting adjourned at 10 :05 p.m. to meet with the Capital Expenditures Committee. The next meeting of the LCC will be held Monday, June 1, at 8:30 p.m. JUN 26 19M / •
