CONSERVATION COMMISSION
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CONSERVATION COMMISSION HELD THURSDAY,
DECEMBER 3, 1964

Mr. Sussman called the meeting to order at 8.30 P. M. Present were Messrs.
Richey, Ells and Sussman. The minutes were approved as submitted.
OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Ells reported upon the status of a 43-acre tract of open land in the
Marrett Road area. Further work upon the possible availability of part of this
land was ,agreed.
Mr. Ells reported on the possibility of federal assistance in the develop-
ment of the "Old Res" into a recreational area. It was voted to turn all studies
and information over to the Town Recreation Committee, and to offer this committee
any help it might desire in getting such an item on the Warrant for the March Town .,J
Meeting.
It was reported that the Planning Board is in favor of having the Conserva-
tion Commission pursue the possibility of obtaining land along the Boston and
Maine R.R. This will be pursued in depth at the December 17 meeting of the Con-
servation Commission when the interested parties will be present.
Mr. Sussman reported that Mr. Harrison was given an option for additional
land on Sunday, November 29. This item is being prepared for the next warrant.
A previously studied 10-acre parcel of land
was discussed as a possible connector strip to a larger parcel of land that is
being considered as a possible Land Trust by its owner. MR. ELLS will see the
owner of this larger parcel and determine his wishes before the next meeting. It
was suggested that an experienced appraiser be consulted for valuation of said land.
A small parcel of land near the center of town was discussed, with a view to
obtaining it to be used as a small nature preserve (which is its present use).
At 9:15 P.M. Mr. Ripley brought an interested citizen to the meeting, to
discuss a proposal concerning the gift of some land to the town, its legal aspects,
etc.

December 12 at 10.00 A.M. the Conservation Commission is invited to meet with

December 17 - Regular Meeting of the Conservation Commission at 9;15 P.M.
9n the 17th the newly appointed Committee to Study the Tax Base will be in to
talk with the Conservation Commission.,
December 28 at 12:15 Rotary Club Luncheon at Anthony's -- Mr. Sussman will dis-
tribute the Conservation Reprints and discuss problems of conservation.
