HomeMy WebLinkAbout1965-01-07-LCC-min.pdf 4/ MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE LEXINGTON CONSERVATION COMMISSION HELD AT THE TOWN OFFICE BUILDING JANUARY 7 1965 at 8 15 o m. All the members of the Commission were present with the exception of Mr. Richie who had informed the Chairman that he would be out of town on this date. Old Business Swenson Farm The Commission has been invited to appear before the Selectmen on Monday, January 11 at 8 p.m. Mr Sussman and Mr Ells will obtain appraisers satisfactory to the town, federal and state governments. Mr. Sussman investigated the possibility of 20% federal aid and re- ports that there is a distinct possibility. The Commission has been working extensively in recent days with the School Building Sites Committee. To assist this committee the Commission has recruited the assistance of the Soil Engineers of the United States Department of Agriculture and has met with the committee to inform them of the possibility that the town might be eligible for 20% federal aid to cover the cost of land acquisition for that portion of school sites to be held as playground and natural areas. The material to go into the warrant was discussed and approved. New Business An invitation was extended to Bruce Gullion of the Department of Natural Resources to attend the next meet- ing of the Conservation Commission to discuss additimal sources of federal aid that might be available for town land acquisitions of all types (schools, playgrounds, etc. ). The possibility of 50% state aid for the purchase of the Swenson Farm, and Lexing- ton 's future open space land acquisition budget will also be dis- cussed. The Soil Conservation Service has suggested that the town commence its natural resources inventory. Mr. Ells will outline a suggested procedure, in consultation with Mr. Zaleski, and pre- sent it to the next meeting of the Commission. The Annual Report closes on January 15; all members were invited to submit material to Mr. Sussman. _.--dc-66 G12 /7C S t The Field and Garden Club will sponsor a panel on con- servation in Estabrook Hall on February 4, 1965 at which representatives from the Planning Board, Conservation Commission, League of Women Voters and others will speak. The meeting adjourned at 11 o 'clock The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, January 21, 1965 at 8 p.m. As Mr. Gullion will meet with us at 8 o 'clock, the members are en- couraged to be prompt.
