May 28* 19!57
A mooting of the Additional Town Office Building Committee
was hold in the :Engineers/ Room, Town Office Building* on ?use-
daY, Nal ,280 1957 at 8:00 rx, Chairman Brooks* Messrs, Reed,
Maloney* Fisher, Oakman and the Secretary were pr4sent.,
Tho discussion held was more or Ions as follows:
Oakman; I have a figure of '30932.00 for furniture,
Chairman: We had a figure of q;600.00 for the antenna an
an additional amount of about $5.000,00 will be
needed,
Fisher: What we had in mind tonight was basically the
furniture, You may remember we asked twic4 to. bide
on furniture, The first tine was inefficient And the
second time lire got one firm bid of $40760000, In that
bid there wore one or two things differAnt than the
specifications. We tackled it on the basis or going
to the individual companies and went to niAc ividual
companies and got titres which we have outlined in
this blueprint. For all the items in the specifica-
tions, and, taking the lowest reputable bidder* we
arrive at $30932.00 which is a considerable 'Saving
over the lowest public b1 which We received.
If it is your choice to accept this on the basis
of the specifications we prepared, and accept these
figures, we would 16011,10 nine different cOntracts,
Those break down into nine firms* but no one of
those fir, would have a contract for more than
;;14,000.00.,
Chairmal: In glancing across this* on the item 9, tables you
have a low Of $50.80 and yet the lowest price here
is *61088,
Oakmanl Because of the $1000,00 grouping, If you were to
take all lowest figures the amount of money you buy
from them for the furniture, their contract would
amount to more than 01000000,
Chairman: Henry Wolkins is cheaper on tables .
Oakmont As a whole group or figures for all the items, they
have it, The limitation is one of the considerations.
Then there is the condition of the matter of finish,
If you took one table from one you would have one
company biddingon one kind or sable and another
company bidding on another kind of table, The finish
on the furniture is a limitation. As it is now you
will have to take what they call a "trade match" for
the furniture and the variations of finish is slight
so it won't make any difference,
.2.
Oakmant The groupinG of the furniture lu the build1u4 it

Oakmont Basically it Is the Same table, but it oight be
different manufacturer Who might VAC) a dittarent
tone flath. liost or the trades vanufacture the =ft
soft tone, but it is basically the same color. Tho
Iilatation of staying within the *l000.on and the
limitation or finish au, blitvo to take the next himheot
figure. It you took the lowest figure c4 auy of those
Ln there, you could possibly got the figure down.. Be.
eause of the two limitations, vn have to adjust the
figure up and you arrive at 1;3,30932.00.
heed* The reason you are limiting it is because of the
$1„000.00. Is that right?
Fishort it is the *1„000.00 you want to restrict each con-
traetor to We could ao to one on and have them
provide 01,000.00 =6 MeY' and $1,000.00 the nest week.
We are avoiding that b eaing to different firma .,
They arc comparable bidwise with other firms. We still
were 000000 lower than tho public bld for the OaM6
specified furniture. You save the town it least *800.00
over public bidding.

Could MZ4 Oreeley get us a breakdown on that? I

the labor and material on the shooting gallory4
Oakmont I think it Va$ 050400 and that weuld come out of
the 017/30000
Reeds What would make it Increase that muoh over the bid?
