Dear Commander Melquist:
Rear Admiral, M. L. Deyo, USN has requested
the Board of Selectmen to appoint a Civilian Com-
mittee for the Naval Reserve to centralize and
organize the enrollment effort to build up the
Naval Reserve, during the week of May 18-25.
Mr. Philip Clark, a Lieutenant Commander who
served in ?orld Maar II, has agreed to serve in the
capacity of Chairman and it will be greatly appre-
ciated if you, as Commander of the American Legion,
will serve s a member of the Committee.
The other members will ee Commander of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars, Commander of the Amvets,
president of the Chamber of Commerce and the
Superintendent of Schools.
The duties of the proposed Committee will be
to use such publicity and. other aid the Naval Dis-
trict can give during the week of May 18-25, and
plans are being made for the showing of a moving
picture in Cary Hall on May 22.
It is our understanding that Mr. Clark will
contact you at a leter date and we sincerely hope
that you will be willing to serve on this Committee.
