BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING
June 26, 1946
A meeting of the Board of Health was held on Thursday
evening, June 26, 1946 at 7 30 p m. Mr McQuillan, Health
Inspector Lamont and the Agent were present
The records of the meeting held on May 16, 1946 were
approved
Mr McQuillan stated that the Chairman is confied at
the Symme,s Arlington Hospital and will probably not be able
to attend Board of Health meetings for some time .
Letter was received from the John C Haynes Memorial
Hospital relative to Paul McLaughlin, age 9 years, of 88 Oa?
Street , who was referred to the hospital by Dr Crumb with a
diagnosis of scarlet fever After three weeks of hospitalisation
symptoms indicate that the patient may be developing rheumatic
fever The letter stated that the child' s family is financially
unable to pay the hospital bills and the Assistant Superintendent
wanted to know whether or not the Board would be responsible for
the second and third week of the patient' s hOspitaliaa' ion
It Inas decked to pay the bill only for the period of time
the child has been confined as a patient with a communicable
disease adjudged dangerous to the public health.
Letter was received from the Commonwealth of Liaosachusetts
Department of Public Health stating that the conditions surround-
ing a dug well on the premises of George J Wilkins, 151 Grove
Street, Lexington An analyses show that the water was safe for
drinking at the time the samples were collected Because of the
nearness of the cesspool the Department cannot approve this well as •
a source from which to take water for drinking and culinary purposes
and recommends that pollution of the ground in the vicinity of the •
well be prevented by the removal of the cesspool to a point remote
from the well. A copy of the letter was mailed to Mr Wilkins
Letter was received from the ElectriO Sewer. Cleaning Co. relative
to a complaint registered by Mrs James Bushard, 25 Bowker Street,
Lexington The Agent was instructed to send Mrs Buschard a copy
of the letter.
The Clerk stated that a State representative had called at the
Board of Health office and recommended that a license to slaughter
be issued to Mr Mindick who slaughters in Mr Monsignore ' s slaughter •
house It was decided to take no action on the matter until the
Chairman was able to be present.
Report of the activities of the Health Inspector from May 24, 1946 •
through June 10, 1946 was received.
