March 22 Sustainability Fair at LHS: Keith signed up for a table at the Fair (10-2 pm); it is a good information opportunity. Bob will be there; four other volunteers are needed. The 4x4 table is sufficient. Eileen said fair leaders are looking for materials for kids. New maps might not be done in time. The Fair is a good opportunity for handing out remaining maps; Keith asked members to bring any each has to the March GCC meeting. New maps may be ready by the Fair and certainly by Patriots’ Day. Discovery Day 2025 Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. 10-3pm. Will sign up together with Friends of Lexington Bikeways to share tables and tents. CLC spring walks: Keith mentioned this as a leadership opportunity. Anyone who’s interested in leading a walk should let Keith know. Ongoing Business Battle Road ACROSS Lexington sign update: Keith said that the Battle Road signs were ordered today and talked about plan for installation. Bob and Keith will install, Bobak volunteered to help. Continuing review of current route development: •Route 3/Bowman Park: Keith received the draft of the RDA permit from Stephen. It will be submitted to Karen once Stephen receives approval from the Recreation Committee. A 100’ boardwalk will be required by Conservation. Keith has inquired of Carol Kowalski about tapping the $30K Waterstone donation to the town for trail work and has also talked with Susan about tapping into the Rick Abrams endowment. Another possibility is applying for CEL money as a town committee. •Proposed Route 8/Concord Avenue: The land management plan was accepted by the Conservation Committee on Monday night. Next step is to talk with Karen about boundary survey (property has never been surveyed). A crosswalk is needed as well, Keith has talked to Ross about the east side of Scott Road. Peggy mentioned how TSG makes decisions about crosswalks and will remind TSG about its being on the bike/ped plan; Keith and Peggy will talk about getting it on TSG’s sidewalk list. An abutter wants to make sure trail is not on their property. •Route 22 Solomon Pierce connector: Mike talked with and received approval from Arlington ConComm; they requested trail be put in down by Maple Street. Keith said that next step is to talk with Karen about a site visit and a permit to put in the trail on Arlington’s Great Meadow. •Bobak mentioned F route and Wood Street and asked about making a path through Hartwell, find a way to go through Route N at the end of Grove Street. Keith said this route was part of the West Lexington Greenway plan. Long term planning is needed to install a sidewalk on Hartwell beyond the bikeway going toward Hanscom to reach an existing trail under the power lines leading over to Kathadin Woods. •Keith described a new goal, mentioning the Town Meeting article to have a boardwalk built at the end of Rangeway to provide a new trail entrance wholly on Town Conservation land that will allow the installation of proposed Route 4 connecting Simonds Brook, Paint and Wright Farm (cost will be for engineering consultation). In FY27 funds will be requested for construction. Other funds will be requested at the upcoming Town Meeting for planning a trail from the Community Center over to Cotton Farm. Brochure Reprinting: Keith showed two options for the cover design. In a review of the new map, members agreed that the marked route of the Battle Road should end at Route F. Some discussion about the color of the Battle Road route. Peggy suggested some explanation of the history of the route might appear on the right side map. Suggestion was made to replace references to Covid-19 and ticks. Peggy will provide Keith and Mike with some draft words about the Battle Road. Facebook Page Refreshing (update): Daisy showed some ideas for the new page. Some suggestions were to use one of Bobak’s pictures for the cover pic, with an inset of the map as the profile circle pic. The title of the page should be ACROSS LEXINGTON (all caps) with a secondary title in smaller font with the formal name (i.e., Rick Abrams ….) of the network. The GCC email should be listed. The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 pm. Next meeting: Thursday, March 13, Parker Room Future Meeting Dates: April 10, May 8, June 12 Recorder: Peggy Enders Editor: Keith Ohmart
