Secretary’s Minutes
Motion to approve the Full Board Trustee Minutes from May 17, 2023 by Suzie Barry,
seconded by Joe Pato. Unanimous.
Building Updates
Children’s Room/Large Meeting Room Project
Architect Stew Roberts gave an overview of the preferred design for the Lower Level
renovation project as well as updated cost estimates. Mention was made about the need
to mitigate outdoor impacts of the project, particularly in the spring of 2025 as the Town
celebrates Lex250. This project will come to Town Meeting in March as Article 10a.
Foundation Updates – Liz O’Neil, Co-President - Cary Library Foundation
Foundation has raised approximate 60% of its goal for ChiRP! and feels optimistic that the
th
goal will be reached as planned. The Take Flight Gala is on April 6, 2024.
The Foundation received a significant bequest from the estate of Lexington Resident
Maria Toscano. This bequest is expected to exceed $600,000 and is directed toward the
purchase of materials.
Friends Updates - Ethie Slate, President – Friends of Cary Library
Revenue from bookstore/sales is very robust this year. The Friends held its first stargazing
party as part of the Beyond the Library/Museum Pass program. The Friends have donated
$44,000 toward the ChiRP! project.
Administrative Updates
Director’s Report
Michelle Techler and Cathie Ghorbani presented an overview of the library’s plans for
service while the building is under renovation.
New Business
Motion to transfer $350,000 to the library’s Restricted Endowment to establish the
Marie E. Toscano Fund for library materials in the library’s Restricted Endowment.
Motion by Suzie Barry. Second by Joe Pato. Unanimous. Any future disbursements
received from the estate of Ms. Toscano will be placed in this fund.
Motion: Contingent on the successful of the library’s capital project at the 2024 Annual
Town Meeting the Trustees of Cary Library authorize the library director to request the
following withdrawals from the library endowment:
o $101,474 from the Restricted “ChiRP! Capital Fund”
o $60,539 from the Restricted “King Street Properties” donation
o $389,461 from the Unrestricted Endowment
Motion by Suzie Barry. Second by Jill Hai. Unanimous.
Motion to close the library at 1:00 on April 12, 2024 to prepare for the Fairy Tale Ball.
