Minutes of the meeting of November 4, 1981
Present Jim Crain (Chair) , Mary Lour Touart, Lillian McArthur, Anna Currin
Hayg Boyadjian, Frank Fuery, also Bea Phear
The meeting was called to order at 8 00 p m
Jim informed the Committee that the Selectmen had voted to close the Warrant for the
Annual Town Meeting on Wednesday, December 30, 1981 at 4 00 p m
The minutes of October 14, 1981 and October 21 , 1981 were approved as written The
minutes of October 28, 1981 were approved as ammended, to include Frank Fuery as
present
The Committee discussed a letter from John Packard, Chairman of the Historic Districts
Commission , regarding his request that the East Village Historic District be enlarged
to include Adams School This would mean that the Historic District Commision would
have jurisdiction over renovation or demolition Hayg moved and Lillian seconded that
the Adams School Conversion Committee recommend to the Selectmen that the East Village
Historic District be enlarged to include the Adams School Passed unanimously
Lillian moved, Anna seconded to place an advertisement in the newspaper, In discussion ,
Havg said he felt trapped into the position that the building would not be used by
the Town He favored considering Town use such as a community center for a place
for teenagers to go on weekends, for retired people: for dancing and for adult educa-
tion Frank and Mary Lou said those ideas had been considered in the past and some
already exist (e g Council on Aging) and they felt that it's not a good idea The
motion was, voted and passed unanimously
The next discussion was around the content of the advertisement Jim distributed a
draft prepared by Bea The limit of a 10 year rental was discussed and Bea was asked
to get clarification from Town Counsel Waldorf representatives were asked if they
would like a longer deal They responded that they wanted it as long as possible to
establish themselves and put money and energy into the building Two minor changes
were incorporated into the draft and Mary Lou moved, Anna seconded, that the ad be
put in the November 12 and 19 Minuteman and the November 15 Boston Sunday Globe,
wording pending Norm Cohen 's response on the lease issue (Note Town Counsel said
to leave as is ; Advertisement is attached ) Motion passed unamiously
Bea asked about sending the ad to organizations and developers who have formerly
expressed interest in municipal buildings She mentioned the Massachusetts
Department of Education that has been required by the governor to rent in public
buildings and the Chinese Cultural Association Lillina moved, Mary Lou seconded,,
that the ad should be sent to all those who had expressed interest in the past
Passed unanimously
Next meeting November 1.8 Jim will cancel this meeting if there has been two
little response from the ad, given the tight time frame
The meeting adjourned at 9 00 p m
