HomeMy WebLinkAbout1957-01-29-BOS-min 273 II SELECTMEN'S MEETING January 29, 1957 A specie. meeting of the Board of Selectmen was held in the Selectmen' s Room, Town Office Building, on Tuesday ev ning, January 29, 1957. Chairman Reed, Messrs. James, Maloney, Tucker and Mrs. Morey were present. Mr. Gayer, Superintendent of Public Works, and the Executive Clerk were also present. Further consideration was given to Mr. W. F. Cowles reques for the extension of 775 feet of water main in Sprint. Street. Mr. Gaye presented a plan showing the distance Req. for ti be 875 fee . which was arrived at from information water main in the Engine:ring Department and checking on the extension field. He sa d that the subject of charging better- ments has bee under study by him and the Town Counsel and they hope. to have something for the March Town Meeting but t at will not be possible. They have checked with i+ther towns and the charges vary. II The Chai .man asked if there was enough in the budget to cov::r this item and Mr. Gayer replied in the negative. He said a rough estimate would be be- tween $7, 000 :nd $10,000. Mrs. Mor::y asked if he had any requests for water that had been refused and Mr. Gayer replied in the negative. He explained that they use 8. 00 a foot for an estimate and the property owner pays $3.00, figuring both sides of the street. Mr. Jamet asked the cost of 8" pipe and Mr. Gayer replied that t is $2.00 a foot. Mr. Malo ey said he would not go along with $8.00 a foot and th Chairman explained that is the way it has been done for some time. The Chai man suggested that Mr. Cowles might be able to get w ter from the City of Waltham. Mr. Erne t Crerie, Chairman of the Recreation Com- mittee met with the Board to discuss budgets. The item of $5400 for painting was taken out and put in the Park Department Budget, together with the item of $350 for five gates at the pool and tennis ' courts. Thre new items were included - lights at the i Center skati rink, $500; track pits, $1200; raise IIskating rink oards $300. No defin to decision was made on either Personal Services or pensee. Mr. Crer e retired. i 274 �= NQ M1 Budgets were discussed with Mr. Gayer as follows: Budget Requested Approved Sewer Construction-Sundry $406,800 Streets The following streets were taken out: Cliffe Avenue, $ 00; Ellison Road, $12,000; Leroy Road, $6,400; Lincoln Street, $14,000; Marrett Road, $28,000; Roosevelt Road, $7,200; Winter Street, $17,000; Eldred Street, $48,000 - total $138,000.
