NE:r=rr, MEETING - J'JIW'JA,R'y . 1p tq'(C)

The Commission°s role is to stimulate widespread discussion of the
proposed RH zone among Town Meeting members, church groups and
citizen organizations. The compelling arguments are that development
can take place only Chapter. 774 in any case and that the new
Sone will maintain Town control; and low cost housing is financially
feasible only in multi unit projects.
Rev. Wells reported on legislation filed in the General LEGISLATION
Court which might conic under the scope of Commission
action. Sen. :HaoKenzie has filed a bill providing for
construction of a new city for making use of marijuana a misdemeanor:
rather than a Lelony ; and for a commission to study :proolems of
conversion from wPv to peace economy. Rep Cole has filed a b5ll which
would authorize the use of gasoline tax receipts for public transpor-
tation as well as highways.
Mr,. Miohelma:n brought to the Commission°s attention a New EDUCATION
England News Agency release in the Minute-Kan concerning FUNCTION
welfare payments?, stating that it was full of inaccuracies
and misinformation. The Commission VOTED unanimously
a direct the Chairman to appoint a sub-coram) ttee to
investigate and determine the facts, and to draft a
Letter to the Editor signed by she Chairman, bringing
those facts to the attention of the public.
Concern was expressed that the Commission might dilute its SCOPE O1'
effectiveness by trying to take action In too many areas LOSR
There was strong feeling, however, that it has the obligation
to provide accurate information under its charge to educate
the public in matters of suburban responsibility It was
suggested that a Task Force on Communication be formed.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 11 :00 p m.
