YOUTH ADVISORY COMMISSION
JANUARY 15, 1974
PRESENT Charles Gallagher, Madylin Quinlan, Dave Norcross,
Ginny Comstock, Josh Cochin, Shirley Hamblen,
Jean Miley, Chris Anderson, Steve Doran, Sue
Abkowitz, Mary Rockwood, Alfred Buss, Paul Furdon,
Betsy Hassler, Dick Robbat, Steve Politi
The Youth Commission was pleased to welcome two guests
to its meeting The first guest, Mrs. Pat Falconer presented
a proposal of a foster home program for potential runaways
in Lexington The purpose of the service would be to provide
a home for troubled youth for one or two nights,a cooling
off period, and to promote communication between the youth
and his/her parents through counseling. Parental permission
would be required and work toward reconciliation would
begin immediately An opposing view was voiced by Paul Furdon
as he felt that the youth could best confront his/her problem*
by facing it rather than by running from it As a member of
the police force he also pointed out that Lexington may not have
a serious number of incidents of runaways to warrant such
a program Mrs. Falconer suggested that the Youth Commission
study the proposal
Mrs Falconer also presented some questionnaires
developed by her students that will be distributed and
discussed at the next meeting
The Youth Commission's second guest was Mrs Anne Scigliano
of the Minuteman In discussion of a weekly column of youth
related events and articles in the newspaper, Mrs Scigliano
remarked that the paper tld welcome such an enterphise
Space could be given providing the youth interest in devel-
oping the column was sincere
Respectfully submitted,
Ginny Comstock
