MEMORANDUM

FROM: John J McSweeney, Chairman SUBJECT' MASON STREET
Traffic Safety Committee I'
\
\sc1
At its meeting of November 16, 1977, the Traffic Safety
Committee discussed the request from the Pleasant Brook Association
for a painted centerline on Mason Street
It was noted by the Committee that Mason Street is a minor street
and that the Town does not make a practice painting centerlines on i
minor streets It was further noted that during the summer of 1975, I
"SLOW CHILDREN" and curve signs were installed on Mason Street We $
believe that these signs constitute more than adequate warnings to
motorists of children in the neighborhood and the alignment of the
roadway
For these reasons, the Committee voted to recommend that the re-
quest be denied. In addition, we once again would like to state that
it is the parents' responsibility to see to it that their children do
not play on the street. We feel very strongly about this point, and
as you know, no amount of signing, signalizing or striping will protect
children playing on the roadway When used properly, these devices
alert drivers of possible occurrences in an area
