Dear Mr, Simpson:
Enclosed you. will find mimeographed copies of the organization
of the Lexin:icton Civilian Defense Committee, This has met with
considerable approval from the Adjutant-General's office and is
being used to some extent as a model for other ooMmunities.
Our first meeting was held on July 11th and the attendance was
remarkable considering the season of the year. 110 attended out of
an invited list of 130. Since then, many of the sub-committees have
met and I understand that the attendance at the meeting, of the
Enlistment Committee was nearly 100%.
In our plan of operation, committees are instructed to make a
study of their particular problem and submit their recommendations
to the Executive Committee whica will then decide on the steps to
be taken in regard to bring:.ng the plan into actual operation,
Next Tueeday evening, July 23, at 8:30 P.M. in the Cary Memorial
Building, Lexington, there will be a meeting of representatives from
all towns and cities in Middlesex County. This meeting is being held
under the auspices of the Adjutant-General's office. I am sure
that Lt. Col, Wilford A. Walker of that office will be glad to extend
your group an invitation to attend this meeting and I suggest that
you communicate with him.
Prior to this meeting, the Executive Committee of the Lexington
Civilian Defense Committee will meet in the Selectmen's Room of the
Town Office Building for the purpose of receiving preliminary reports
from sub-committees. We shall be glad to have you attend this
meeting to observe the progress that is being made.
Sincerely yours,
ARG:M Chairman, Selectmen, ,
