Simpson Chairman of the Committee of Correspondence Widener Library Cambridge, Massachusetts Dear Mr, Simpson: Enclosed you. will find mimeographed copies of the organization of the Lexin:icton Civilian Defense Committee, This has met with considerable approval from the Adjutant-General's office and is being used to some extent as a model for other ooMmunities. Our first meeting was held on July 11th and the attendance was remarkable considering the season of the year. 110 attended out of an invited list of 130. Since then, many of the sub-committees have met and I understand that the attendance at the meeting, of the Enlistment Committee was nearly 100%. In our plan of operation, committees are instructed to make a study of their particular problem and submit their recommendations to the Executive Committee whica will then decide on the steps to be taken in regard to bring:.ng the plan into actual operation, Next Tueeday evening, July 23, at 8:30 P.M. in the Cary Memorial Building, Lexington, there will be a meeting of representatives from all towns and cities in Middlesex County. This meeting is being held under the auspices of the Adjutant-General's office. I am sure that Lt. Col, Wilford A. Walker of that office will be glad to extend your group an invitation to attend this meeting and I suggest that you communicate with him. Prior to this meeting, the Executive Committee of the Lexington Civilian Defense Committee will meet in the Selectmen's Room of the Town Office Building for the purpose of receiving preliminary reports from sub-committees.
