Partridge, Chairman, John E. Gilcreast, A. Randall Soderberg and James H. Russell. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Partridge at 8 15 Y .M. Chairman Partridge called attention to the fact that a communication had been received from the Celebrations Committee of the City of Boston in which it was stated that a meeting of that Committee would be held Tuesday evening, March 27th, at 8 P M. in Boston City Hall Request was made that a representative from Lexington meet with the Boston Committee. James H. Russell, Clerk of the Committee stated that letters had been sent to all of the organizations as listed in the minutes of the meeting held March 15th with the exception that no letter had been sent to the Waltham High School Band inasmuch as it was understood that they would claim transportation expenses; also that an invitation had been sent to Thomas H. Bassett, Commander, First Motor Corps, Unit #12, Mass. State Veterans, this having been done on instructions from the Chairman. It was regularly moved and voted by the Committee that the action of the Clerk in sending the letter to the Mass. State Guard Veterans be ratified. The Clerk of the Committee was also authorized to send a letter to the Waltham High School Band, but with specific advice that there would be no money available for transportation. The Committee authorized the sending of an invitation to the American Legion Auxiliary. Mr. Gilcreast reported that Zade Sherman would furnish the Spirit of '76,but that there would be a small expense for uniforms. Chairman Partridge stated that Mr. Seltzer of the Lexington Minute-Men had called him with reference to having the Lexington Band as the musical outfit for the Minute-Men. It was agreed by the Committee that the matter of formation of the Parade would be left to the Chief Marshall who would work in conjunction with the Committee. The Clerk was authorized to send an invitation to the Lexington Hunt Club, in care of John Devine. - 2 - Mr. Soderberg reported that he was taking care of all of the matters connected with the Boy Scouts, and that those details would all be taken care of. Mr. Russell advised the Committee that Mr James J. Carroll, Chairman of the 1933 Committee, had turned over the prizes which were purchased by that Committee and which were not used The prizes were examined by the Committee and there was discussion regarding the possibility of having competitive events for the Boy Scouts. The matter was finally left with Mr Soderberg to take up with the officers of Sachem Council to determine what the desires of Council Officers might be. Chairman Partridge reported. on the matter of the decoration of Cary Memorial Hall stating that Chairman Trask of the Board of Selectmen had advised him that the cost would be approximately $50. and that it would be his suggestion that the Committee confine themselves to decorating the reviewing stand. The Committee than had discussion relative to placing flags around the semi-circle in front of the Cary Memorial Building using the so-called Shenendoah system. This idea was very appealing to the Committee and Mr. Gilcreast stated that he would find out the cost of the flags and would have the Town Engineer make a plan to show how many flags should properly be used and where they would be placed. Inasmuch as the appropriation available to the Committee would be insufficient to permit the use of the Town funds for the purchase of flags, it was suggested that if a-letter were sent to the well-to-do men of the Town, that sufficient money could be obtained to purchase the flags, and it was agreed that it would probably be advisable to suggest donations of S5.00 to Cover the cost of one flag, with plate to be placed on the flag giving the name of the donor. Mr. Gilcreast agreed to prepare a list of the men in the Town to whom it might be advisable to send the letters. Chairman Partridge stated that he had contacted Mr. Worthen with reference to preparing the sketch on the subject of Patriot 's Day, and that while Mr. Worthen was perfectly willing to do this for the Committee, he felt that the printing of a program was unnecessary for the reason that the Lexington Minute-Man was preparing to get out a special edition of their paper to be sold on the streets of Lexington on April 19th. After some discussion the Committee recorded itself in favor of going ahead with the program, and instructed Chairman Partridge to again contact Mr. Worthen with reference to the sketch. The Committee took up the matter of naming the Chief Marshall for the parade, and it was the unanimous agreement of Messrs Soderberg, Gilcreast and Russell that Chairman Partridge should be designated to serve as Chief Marshall. - 3 - The Committee approved bills for payment as follows Elinor Moakley, Clerical services - S3.50 II S Post Office, Postage - 2.00 The meeting adjourned at 10:20 P.M. to meet again at 8 P M on Thursday," March 29th.
