The members of the Committee were as follows: Eugene H. Partridge, Chairman, John E. Gilereast, A. Randall Soderberg and James H. Russell. The meeting was calls d to order by Chairman Partridge at 8 10 P.M. and James H. Russell was elected to serve as Clerk for the Committee. The Committee first discussed the programs as follwed in past years. It was voted not to have any celebration on the night before April 19th. It was voted to request the Fire Department to blow the fire whistle at six o 'clock A.M., blowing 1775 - 1934. It was voted to have the usual sunrise parade of Girl Scouts and flag raising, the parade to start from East Lexington, Adams School, at six o 'clock A.M., the Boy Scouts to raise the flag on the Battle Green on the arrival of the parade. It was voted to furnish a breakfast to the Girl Scouts at the Hancock Church on the disbanding of the parade, the expense to be limited to $15.00. It was voted to have the bell on the Old Belfry rung at seven o 'clock A.M. , by the Boy Scouts under the direction of an adult leader. Discussion was given with reference to having the Spirit of '76 for the eleven o 'clock parade, and it was agreed that Mr. Gilcreast was to communicate with Zade Sherman with reference to this. It was voted to extend invitations to the following organizations to take part in the parade on April 19th to start from the Adams School at eleven o'clock: Lexington Minute-Men Lexington Drum Corps Girl Scouts Drum Corps Girl ,Scouts Boy Scouts Colors and First Aid Unit Order of DeMolay with Newton DeMolay Band Lexington Grange Board of Trade Daughters of the American Revolution Lexington Chapter, American Red Cross Lexington Band Waltham High School Band - 2 - I Watertown Post, American Legion and Band Melrose Post, American Legion, and Band Waltham Post, American Legion, and musical outfit, if any. Commander, American Legion It was also voted by the Committee that the Board of Selectmen would be invited to review the parade in the same manner as has been done in past years, and it was also the sentiment of the Committee that it would be an addition to the parade if 'the Board of Selectmen could be persuaded to march with the parade from the starting point to a point near Woburn Street where the parade could be halted to allow the Selectmen sufficient time to reach the reviewing stand. It was agreed that this matter would be taken up with the Board of Selectmen to find out what their reaction might be. Discussion was given with reference to furnishing refreshments to those taking part in the parade and serving in musical outfits. It was finally agreed that it would be well to try out such a plan and the amount of $50. was set aside to cover the cost of such refreshments, probably to consist of coffee, doughnuts and cheese. There was discussion with reference to the pla cing of a wreath at the Colonial Monument on the Battle Green by the Daughters of the American Revolution. It was found that in 1933 this was made a separate event whereas in many previous years it was done during the halt of the parade. It was the opinion of the Committee that it was preferable to have the wreath placed during a halt of the parade and that the matter be taken up with the organization. It was voted to request the blowing of the fire whistle at 12:30 P .M. , blowing 1775 - 1934. The Committee deferred until a later meeting the matter of arranging a reception to the rider impersonating Paul Revere to arrive about 12 30 and the rider impersonating Dawes to arrive about 12 40. f U 1 - 3 It was voted to make arrangements, if possible, for the holding of a band concert on the Buckman Tavern grounds from two o'clock to four o 'clock in the afternoon, the concert to be given, if possible, by the Lexington Band. It was agreed to defer until a later meeting the matter of arranging details of the parade and appointment of a parade marshall. The Committee discussed the advisability of putting out a program of events, and it was the coneensus of opinion of the Committee that such a program should be prepared, the program not only to contain a list of the events of the day but also a resume of the significance of Patriot 's Day, this sketch to be written if possible by Mr. Edwin B. Worthen. It was the opinion of the Committee that these programs could perhaps be distributed throughout the Town by the Boy Scouts and distributed to the people on the streets on April 19th by the Boy Scouts. It was agreed that Mr. Soderberg would take up this matter with the Boy Scout organization and that Mr. Soderberg would also make arrangements for the detail of Boy Scouts for the flag raising and for the bell ringing in the Old Belfry. Also Mr. Soderberg was requested to contact the Scout Organization to determine wherher or not the Scouts would be available to assist in general police duty on April 19th. Discussion was given with reference to the advisability of having some decoration on the Cary Memorial Building, and it was agreed that a contact would be made with some decorator to see what could be done but that any such expense be limited to $15.
