Board of Selectmen Lexington, Massachusetts Gentlemen. - The Patriots' Day Committee as appointed by your honorable Board , begs to submit a brief report of its activities. Seven meetings of the Committee were held and all members of the Committee were present at each meeting The Committee extended invitations to American Legions Posts in cities and towns surrounding Lexington to take part in the Patriots' Day parade but very little response was received from these organizations . However, representatives of other organ- izations contacted our Committee and requested invitations to come to Lexington. Among these organizations conic be mentioned the Woburn Sea Scouts, The Drum Corps of Joseph L. Stevens Post #1260 , V.F.W. of Swampscott , the Boys Brigade and Drum Corps of the North Avenue Congregational Church of Cambridge and the band of the William L. Harris Post #196 , American Legion of Boston. As the money appropriated by the Town was insufficient to permit payment for transportation, the Committee decided to furnish light refreshments to the members of the musical organizations at the termination of the parade. This was done at an expense of t)53.15, and over 300 persons were served, each receiving a sandwich, a doughnut , a piece of cheese and a cup of coffee The breakfast for the Girl Scouts taking part in the early morning parade was provided at the Hancock Church at a total cost of $14.02. The Committee desired to provide some decoration for the Town Buildings , and after discussing various ideas , finally conceived the idea of inviting citizens of Lexington to make donations of $5. each to provide flags to be placed around the Cary Memorial Building. Through the generosity of twenty-four citizens of the Town, the flags were secured, and your Committee has already been advised by your Board that the results were most pleasing. - 2 - Board of Selectmen May 7th, 1934 Your Committee desires to submit the following report with reference to expenditures Appropriation $250.00 For postage $2.58 For stenographic services 14.50 For services of Charles Moloy in connection with flags , etc. 5.00 For costumes and expenses in connection with "Spirit of ' 76" 10.00 For printing 4000 four page programs 30.00 For printing 300 refreshment tickets 1.50 For food for breakfast for Girl Scouts 10.02 For preparing Girl Scout breakfast and washing dishes 4.00 For food and supplies for luncheon for musical organizations 53.15 For services rendered to Patriots' Day Committee by Raymond A.
